Babies: 6 - 9 Months

DD doesn't want to even roll let alone crawl!

Hmmmm...My 8 month old (on the fourth) doesn't like to even roll over.  I have seen her roll from back to front once and she will occasionally roll tummy to back.  I am not overly concerned but I am just wondering what other parents have to say about this.  Do you have any advice I can use to encourage her to roll/crawl?  Just want to help my lil chunka munk!  :)

Oh!  And a question more for my hubby...parents who cloth diaper...did you notice that your kiddos rolled or crawled late?  Do you think it is due to the bulk of cloth? Hubbs is convinced this is part of it.

TIA!!

  • My dd is 8 months & isn't crawling either. She used to roll a lot but not anymore. I just try not to put her in her walker or activity thing much. I put her in the floor with her toys. I also put them where she has to work for it.
Crawling isn't considered a milestone. So dont worry! I'm not. They will do what they want, when they want to.

  • Some kids are that motivated to crawl...I've heard of babies that skip it entirely. Does she sit up unassisted? Both of my boys have used cloth and I've noticed no delays at all. My first wasn't big on rolling although he crawled around 7 months. My second loves rolling and started at 3 months....it really depends on the kid. Don't stress about it.

  • This one isn't a roller - he's totally content however you place him lol  I asked the doctor about it and she said that she wants to see him making moves toward mobility of some kind - rolling, scooting, reaching, crawling, pulling up, etc.  They all point to physical capabilities whereas if you focus on only one, it could be that the child just has no interest in that one thing.  He's proving her right lol  Still won't roll but reaches and gets himself onto his belly from a sitting position (on purpose lol) and pulls up CONSTANTLY.  He'll also scoot if you give him something to push off of so I think real scooting is around the corner.

  • DD is 7.5 months and no rolling, crawling or pulling up either. She constantly rolls to her sides but never all the way over-she's a chunky baby so maybe the tummy just gets in the way. She can sit unsupported but can't get from floor to sitting up w/o a little help. I worry about it a lot but not sure what to do. People say to put her toys further away so she has to reach for them which I do so that is helping.

  • My LO will just be 6 months on Tuesday but rolls both ways and gets up in hands and knees but more does the worm than crawl. Anyway we cloth diaper so I don't think that has anything to do with it. LO did start rolling consistently tummy to back early on around 2 months but then sort if got over it as he reached other milestones. Before rolling back to tummy he'd go to his side or even have his whole body over but not his arms/ head but he just didnt seem interested in fully rolling until he had good motivation. I think sometimes they are more than capable, just not interested.

  • Mine will be 8 months on the 19th. He has rolled a few times, but not much. He isn't crawling or even trying to figure it out. When we put him on the floor, he lifts his legs and arms up in the air at the same time and grunts and rocks, like that's going to get him anywhere. He doesn't pull up. He does sit. I guess eventually he'll get tired of being stuck in one spot and will figure out how to move.

How big is LO? Joel is a very big baby, and the ped said big babies can be slow to roll over or crawl due to their sheer size. He isn't rolling over yet and doesn't seem like he'd want to!
