Damn you GTT!!!

I failed my one hour with a whopping 170.

I really thought it went well!  And it sent DD into a gymnastics routine.  Within 10 minutes of drinking the stuff I could feel her going nuts so it made the hour more tolerable.

Seeing my new OB on Friday and I'm almost hoping that they just have me repeat the 1 hour (wishful thinking, I know) otherwise I'm off for the 3 hour next week.

Anyone else fail their GTT?

Re: Damn you GTT!!!

  • I just heard my voicemail and it included a "We need to discuss your lab results" which to my mind means "Failed the 1hr, time to schedule a 3hr".

Which I am not at all happy about seeing as I heard the voice mail right after talking to my sister about what kind of delicious cake I wanted at the baby shower. :(

  • Failed my one hour last Monday. Took my 3 hour last Friday...waiting for the results now.
  • Yep, failed my one hour today. Scheduled for the three hour one in two weeks. I was surprised how upset I was that I failed even though it is really out of my control. Failed by 10pts :(

  • Yep.  Every pregnancy I've failed the 1 hour and then passed the 3 hour.  My OB says that roughly 50% of people fail the 1-hour; it's just a way for them to screen out that 50% so that not everyone has to sit there for 3 hours.

  • I'm sorry! I didn't fail the 1 hour, but I did throw up my 3 hour or 2 hour or whatever it was (it involved three blood draws). I ended up doing a Hemoglobin A1C to avoid a repeat throw up session. I hope your new OB is waaay better than your old one. :)

Failed my 1 hour by 26 points, was told "do not take the 3-hour, do not pass go, go directly to testing!"

    Blarg!

FX you pass the 3-hour, it's totally possible.

It depends on the office. One set of doctors at our hospital use <130 and the other two groups use <140.

  • i "failed" mine last week at 144, but have a history of GD and will not do the 3 hour. I will just be treated as GD.

Redoing the 1 hour isn't really beneficial because it isn't diagnostic. That's why I've heard a lot of practices are moving away from the 1 hour to only doing 2 or 3 hour tests.

lots of women pass the 3 hour without difficulty. good luck!

  • I have my 1 hour on Thursday. The nurse told me not to eat/drink anything with sugar or dairy the night before or the morning of the test. They said it will help me pass the test. I'm nervous....

And confirmed. Failed the 1hr. Doc wants me to do a special carb loading diet for 3 days before the three hour. Uuuuuuuugh.

    Ugh that sucks :/
  • Good luck to those of you who are taking a 3 hour!  I'm not looking forward to it.........at all.
  • I failed the 1 hour with 211. I didn't take the 3 hour, I was diagnosed with GD then and there. After about a month of monitoring my sugars I was put on insulin today.
Oh man.  This may be a dumb question, but GD isn't permanent, right?  Hence its name?
  • Oh these glucose tests are a nightmare! I failed my 1 hour and didn't technically fail my 3 hour ( I had one number that was out of range, you fail if you have 2 out of range) but instead of putting me on the diet they want me to come back and do the 3 hour AGAIN in 4 weeks. Thankful I have a close family member who is a dietician and wrote me a meal plan for gd since the military hospital would rather draw the process out apparently! I've told my doctor it's very common in my family and would rather be on the safe side but they act like it's so borderline they don't know what to do.

Ok I feel better after that rant.
  • That's correct. Occasionally GD will turn into type 2 diabetes and stick around, but the vast vast majority of cases resolve immediate on delivery.

  • I failed my 1 hr GTT with a 150. Waited a week and did the 3 hr GTT and passes with flying colors. They should skip the 1 hr and do a 3 hr automatically!! That juice is no joke. Good luck
  • I failed the 1 hour last time and had to do the 3 hour which I passed.  This time I went straight to the 3 hour (did it yesterday).  Hoping I passed.

  • Failed mine Friday :(

    I have the 3 hour tomorrow :(

I really hate having to have blood drawn!!! My OB draws it 4 times during the 3 hour test. I'd almost rather be diagnosed with GD and follow a recommended diet for the last 11 weeks of my pregnancy!
