We joined a daycare that has mostly upper middle class families (this May or May not be relevant). I really like this school and one of the primary reasons is because of the community feel and my opportunity to become friendly with other moms. I was surprised to find so many solicitations to parties where stuff is sold. On one hand I want to be involved socially as much as possible. On the other I'm more of a bargain hunter and don't have a ton of interest in the stuff.
I'm curious to hear about your experiences. Do you suck it up as a cost of being part of the schools social circles? Or can I safely ignore and move on.
To be honest these are really nice families and moms. And they are fun and we all live close to one another so building friendships with these families is a great opportunity to connect with my community.
I don't feel pressured to purchase but I am wondering whether I'm missing the bigger picture here.
And sometimes the follow up emails beyond the initial invitation are annoying, if I'm being honest.
WDYT?
Re: Daycare moms selling parties
I am curious if the daycare knows that this is going on? I honestly would be quite upset if they were in any way encouraging this or giving out your personal information for these purposes.
All that said, it's hard to meet other mom friends so I probably would cave and go to one just so I could meet people. It gets easier around age 3, now dd gets invited to bday parties, so we are getting to know some of the parents.
