What to wear for delivery?

Had our hospital tour last Friday and the gal said we can wear whatever we want. I know I don't want some big hospital gown in the way. STMs- what did you wear? Suggestions?

I am thinking that during actual delivery I am only going to want a sports bra on. Maybe get a robe to wear while laboring and for after when family floods the room....

  • I'm a FTM, but I was thinking of buying a few non fitted tees for after the birth. I saw a cute one that said "Keep Calm and PUSH". Maybe a tee and yoga pants or leggings. During labor I probably will just wear a hospital gown because I don't want to get any bodily fluids on my own clothing. But I definitely want something other than a hospital gown for after when the family comes in.
  • I bought one of these www.birthingown.com

I labored in it (and loved it). Obviously took it off to be in the birthing tub. I did not push in it. I wore it a ton post partum. It was super comfortable to wear around the house. I bought another one already for this time. My old on is now stained so I wanted a pretty, new one. They are sometimes on zulily for a discount.

  • I never really thought about it... I wore the gown and it didn't bother me at all. I bought a velour maternity outfit that I wore in post partum and brought a robe and slippers.
  • for labor and delivery?  wear the hospital gown.  it will get gross and most certainly wasn't in the way of anything.

  • I'll be wearing the gown with a nursing bra, I don't want to get all those fluids on my own clothes.

PP I wore a robe, loose pajama pants/tshirt, or a gown.

  • For labor I will just wear the gown. Last time I did that and then when he was born we did skin to skin right away. A bra would have gotten gross/in the way. After I wore a large sleep shirt that buttoned for the first day. The second day I wore yoga pants and nursing tank. Also what I wore home.

  • Sports bra or nursing bra and the hospital gown.  Given that I have peed and puked all over myself during labor, I certainly wouldn't want to be wearing anything that I paid money for:)  I think I just wore a sports bra or a bikini top in the tub.  Brought an extra to change into when I got out.

  • I'm voting hospital gown. Who knows what that thing looked like when it was all said and done. Plus I really did not care what I was wearing. After I had DD I wore yoga pants and a nursing tank.

  • Hospital gown all the way (with my robe for when I walk around).  I had a c-section both times, and they had to check the incision way too many times for me to want to bother with pants of any sort.

Will you be nursing? Just asking bc if you are you will be lifting those tees up ad nauseum.

I am planning on the hospital gown again this time. Let their stuff get ruined and let them worry about laundry.

I will also wear their gown the first 24 hrs or so post partum. Same reasons, plus the added one of doctors and nurses needing to get at my undercarriage. Beyond that, comfy nursing top and probably yoga pants or the like.

  • Nothing. I went nekked.  :) I totally would have never planned to do it that way, but when I got to the room I was way too hot to wear anything. I didn't wear anything until I got back to the room, and then I just wore the hospital gowns until I went home. The ones at our hospital were super comfy and I actually missed them when I went home.

This time around I will wear the gown or go naked again.
