Daycare and valentines

So my LO's daycare is having a valentines celebration and while it is not mandatory to bring anything they gave us a sheet of the other kids name if we wanted to bring anything in. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? I think it would be fun to do something but I'm not sure what and something relatively inexpensive. One idea was puffs but you just never know doing food? Thoughts? Thanks for any suggestions!

  • There are only 8 kids in the class so the thought would be each having their own thing of puffs (unopened) but even still I don't want to spend the money if parents end up throwing it away. I like those cheesy notes though ;-)
  • Our daycare sent us a letter similar to this also. However, they specifically said that they encourage us not to include candy with our valentines.  I haven't decided if we are going to do anything for it, but I will be following this thread for ideas.

  • Since there are only 8 kids in the class could you maybe check out the dollar section at target to see if there are baby friendly toys in there? I know they have a bunch of vday stuff there now. They did have some little car toys that I got for Grayson as a vday gift but he hadn't played with them yet.

I'm like a VDay scrooge - I wouldn't do anything for babies this young lol  But if you do, I would vote against puffs since they're open and I personally wouldn't feed open food someone had given me to my kid.  Maybe those individual bags of Goldfish or peach or apple Dole fruit cups with some cheesy notes about "You're peachy, Valentine! or "You're the apple of my eye."
Same- G's class is getting valentines, but Lo isn't even in school that day so I'm not bringing in squat. But it's also G's birthday week so I just baked the whole damn place about 400 red velvet cupcakes, including for the teachers in Lo's room so I feel like that counts.
I like the peach and apple idea if you're feeling up to not being a grinch like me!

  • Unfortunately we live an hour and a half away from a target :-( but that would have been a wonderful idea. My hubby was thinking bathtub toys would be fun like ones you see at walmart but that gets pretty expensive ...
  • I'm doing (leftover from DS1 last year) Nemo cards and $1 rubber duckies for the 8 kids in his class.

  • I'm doing a $1 box of chocolate for dcp and the kids are going to get a goldfish cookie bag
  • We did applesauce pouches for DD #1's daycare class, but she was a year older.  We attached like "You're the apple of my eye!" tags.

  • I always get nervous with giving food becasue everyone has different preferences, organic vs non organic, no processed food, food alergiesect.

I went to Michales and got little plastic heart decorations, emptied out miniture water bottles and put a few plastic hearts in the bottle. I glued the cap on and tied a pink ribbon and tag around the top. I stole the idea from Pinterest and my total for 12 'Valentine' rattles was $6.50.

  • I don't think our place is doing anything.  I know they sent valentine's guidelines out for the older kids - but the saying nothing (coupled with being closed on the actual day for a teacher education day) means I'm not doing anything!

  • I love that water bottle idea! What fun! Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone!
  • Great, now I have something else to think about. Ugh!!!
  • What if you got a package of the bathtub toys (I know they have some with multiple tots in the pack) then, you could split them up and give each kid one with a cute note/valentine with it.
  • I'm giving them each a banana Mum Mum with a note saying, "I'm bananas over you! Love, Abigail" That way I only have to buy one box of Mum Mums but she's still bringing in something cute.
