Dealing with the water breaking...

Does it cause staining? How long does it last? I was wondering if I needed to prep the vehicle for my girl after her water breaks. We have a lease and her and I were talking about it and I know the day it happens I won't care but leading up to it she said we could prepare but this is our first and we honestly have very little clue of what happens

You can if you want but I don't think most people have their water break until they are already in labor/having contractions. With DD mine didn't go until right before it was time to push, so I don't plan on taking any precautions this time on the off chance it could happen. Its not worth it to me.

Mine broke while laying down in bed. It was a ton of water and it just kept coming (how can there be so much fluid in there?!). I ran to the bathroom and then held a towel to myself, it was a lot!

I've heard most of the time if it does break it is just a small leak. Can you just keep a folded towel on the seat of your car just in case? Luckily we had a waterproof mattress protector on our bed. Also I don't think it stained..

Mine broke while I was lying on the sofa. I felt it right away so was able to get to the bathroom before any fluid got onto the sofa. I just put a pad on and we were on our way to the hospital. I think trying to waterproof you car is really going overboard. Its not like a gallon of fluid suddenly comes gushing out. My fluid continued to flow all through the drive and the pad I was wearing was fine. Also, like pps mentioned, only a small percentage of women have their water break before any other labor symptoms start.

Mine was more of a slow leak as well so I was fine with a pad. However if it is a full on break a pad will do nothing for the amount of fluid that comes. You could probably just have your car cleaned if it were to happen. It's clear fluid. I'm more worried about our $2500 mattress

With my first, it started as a super slow leak and slowly increased over a few hours. I was 5 weeks early so by the time we realized what was going on, I was having light spotting with it but a pad was still enough. By the time we got to the hospital it had been 6 hours or so, but when I stood up from the check-in chair, it gushed! When I got my clothes back, they weren't stained, just wet. Like others said though, just keep a trash bag and a big towel just in case if you're worried.

My water broke first. I highly suggest buying some Depends. I kept some in the house, some in the car, and some at the office. Every time I switched positions, more would gush out. I doubt a towel would have cut it...

My water broke hours after I was already in the hospital, but it was a huge gush and if I were at home or in the car it would have made quite the mess. I also had meconium so it was not clear. I don't think it would hurt to have some trash bags in the car or a towel to lay over the seat.

My water broke both times before being admitted to the hospital. I wore pads and sat on a towel over a garbage bag, like pp suggested.

Protect-a-Bed. Our dogs have peed on our Tempurpedic and it didn't get through to the mattress. You're welcome.

If you have a house trained dog, you can keep a few wee-wee pads in the car. That's what I sat on during the ride to the hospital. My water broke as I was lying in bed.

For each of my other two I just eased my mind by putting a waterproof mattress cover on the bed and a couple trash bags and old towel in my car. Neither is hard or expensive, so I figured it was worth it just in case. Didn't use them with either of them, but I'll do it again to ease my mind.
