Pumping question

Anyone else get sore when pumping?

When I was home and just pumping once per day, level 3 was comfortable. However, now that I'm back at work and pumping multiple times per day, I'm getting sore at that same level. Anyone else experience this? If I reduce it to level 2 will I still get the same effectiveness? What else can I do?

Re: Pumping question

  • It shouldn't hurt to pump. I've been EP for over 6 weeks now and the only time it hurt was when my pump flanges were too small. After i got the next size up I was good and also on my Medela PIS I literally barely turn it on, too much suction can decrease the amount of milk you get. Not increase! So try turning it down until you feel comfortable!

  • Lanolin applied before pumping makes it comfortable for me.
  • It only hurts when it first starts, after a minute or two I'm fine. They are sore because I EP. But not enough to bother me. Lanolin does help.

  • I have been EP for 10 weeks.  It did not start hurting until about 3 weeks in.  I have 3 different sizes of flanges and none of them help.  I think it just hurts.  Sorry :(

  • Have y'all tried the flexible flanges? My best friend just brought me hers since she's weaning her LO at 10 months. I haven't tried them yet but would imagine they'll help pumping be more comfortable.
