Shower Timing

I haven't seen anything about this so I'm sorry if it's repeat. This discussion came up today and I thought I would ask the rest of the pregnant world.

I'm curious, what is considered the normal gestational time frame for baby showers?

ETA: is there a certain cut off point that you would consider to be just way too early?

My shower was at 31 weeks last time around - I thought that was just right - after 2nd tri, but I wasn't huge and uncomfortable yet

Mine was at about 37 weeks last time. I think that's a little later than most people do it but it wasn't a big deal. We had everything we needed for the baby before she came.

I was wondering this too, just because I feel like I have to have mine earlier than most people do because I will be flying cross-country for my shower. We have two potential dates picked out, I'll be 28 or 29 weeks, depending on which weekend it ends up being. I feel like most people have theirs closer to 30+ weeks, but I don't want to fly that far that largely pregnant.

My mom was planning on 34-36 weeks, I asked if we could do it closer to 32. With all the complications and everything I've had to deal with I'm just not comfortable which much later.

I know I'm probably jinxing myself that I'll be overdue, but I honestly don't think my doc will let me be.

Not to mention I'm pretty sure between the heat, the belly and my inability to handle heat I'm going to super fucking unpleasant to be around near the end.

I had two with DD, I had to travel by plane for both of them. The first I was 28 weeks and the second I was 32 weeks. I was not uncomfortable yet so the timing of both were perfect, I would not have wanted one after 37 weeks because I was so uncomfortable at that point.

Due to family conflicts, I'm having mine April 26 and I'm not due until July 18. Pretty early but may and June are booked!

Friends & family shower will be around 31 weeks. Right near my 35th bday.

Bwahaha. I thought you meant baby showers as in when can we put our babies in the shower with us, instead of a bathtub. Pregnancy brain at its finest.

With my DD (March 2012 baby), my shower was super early in early Dec because the friend throwing it was pregnant and due at the end of January. I think for a July baby, you'd want May. That way you still have enough time to buy whatever else you need; are comfortable; and you aren't too close to your EDD.

I'm probably having mine around 24 weeks, since I have to drive 6-8 hours to get to my family, that's the only available time to go unless I wait until 35 weeks, but I do not want to be driving down there at that point in case something happens. That also might be the only opportunity financially if taxes go well. I wish I could do it a bit later, but I don't really want to miss school or make DH miss school, so spring break it is. :P I was glad to see that others did it fairly early as well.

Mine is going to be early I can't travel after 30weeks so my 6hr drive to it needs to be earlier we are doing it at the beginning of April even though I'm not due till July 1st.

My sister is throwing my shower. She is in grad school and wanted it before her finals and May/Summer term. I think I will be 28 weeks for the weekend she wants to have it.

Anyways, I believe my shower was around 28-30 weeks somewhere in there.

I go on modified bed rest at 24 weeks, so if I actually have a shower it'll be before then because of the 10 hour drive to and from the location.

My mom is adamant about planning mine for a month before the due date. It's tough because we have Memorial Day right around then so it's being planned for exactly 4wks before my due date. Yay for being huge, hot and uncomfortable during my shower....

I read an etiquette post that said showers should be approximately 2 months before your EDD to avoid conflict with complications. This makes perfect sense to me since the last shower I was invited to was 4 weeks before my friend's EDD and she actually went into labor that morning.

When I had my babies before it was customary to only have a shower with your first baby, but it has bed 10 years since I had a baby and now have no baby items. Is this still the norm or do people have showers for every pregnancy?

My shower with DD wasn't until I was around 36 weeks. I was actually not feeling too bad, but I would've liked it earlier, but we couldn't due to the Jewish high holy days.

This time a friend wants to throw me one since I'm having twins (and she and I weren't really friends before I had DD), and I'm hoping it'll work out to be done around 28 weeks (with twins this is ideal).

I think you usually aim for third tri, like 30-35 weeks is best.

I will be almost 37 weeks at my shower. I wish it could be a little bit sooner but my husband wants to be there and he will be deployed for about 6 weeks from April 13th - May 21st. And since early April is too soon and due to other date conflicts it won't be until June 15th and I am due July 9th. I am just thankful that my mother isn't hosting because then it would have to be even later.

Baby showers are typically just for the 1st in my family, but we did have one for my aunt when she was expecting my youngest cousin a good 10 years after her other boys. When it's a large gap like that & you need to invest in baby items all over again, it's totally acceptable in my book!

I had mine at 30 weeks with DS. My mom wanted to have it the same weekend as my birthday, which would have out me around 35 weeks, but I didn't want to travel 3+hrs each way at that point, plus DH and I were buying a house and weren't sure on the closing yet. DS was born 2.5 weeks early- just 4 days after we closed on the house and moved in. If my shower had been later, I probably wouldn't have had everything ready and would have been majorly stressing out!
I was still really comfortable at 30 weeks, and we lucked out with a cool weekend.

I had one side of my family at 37 weeks with DD. The other side had my shower after DD was born. My cousin who was due the day before me threw the shower. My aunties didn't like the fact that we were team green so my cousin threw a meet the baby shower.

I keep reading the title thinking it's like, "Hey STMs, when do you find time to shower after the baby comes??" And I'm like, "I never shower anymore!" as I open up the thread and think "whoops."

I don't remember when my showers were, but I remember liking the earlier one better than the later one.
