Parenting after a Loss

Potentially Ridiculous Formula Question (martinimomma)

Okay, this is probably a silly question, but here goes anyway:

How much formula does/did your 5 month old eat?

I BF'd DS with occasional bits of formula until he was almost 10 months old.  Even then, he had bad reflux and took small bottles, and was not a ravenous kid in general (and he still eats for crap but that is another post for another day).

I weaned DD to exclusively formula and am starting to get a little shocked by what she is putting away on a daily basis.  She is probably 17 or so pounds, and lately has been eating about 28-32 oz per day.  That just seems like a ton to me for a baby her age.  DS was putting away those amounts at about a year.

Nevermind that DD is getting RTF Alimentum...which means she is socking back $10 a day in formula.  So if this is normal, I need to get her on to powdered formula asap before she bankrupts us.

Thoughts?  I checked the Fearless Formula Feeder site and I guess this is not off track, but I appreciate any additional feedback.

Re: Potentially Ridiculous Formula Question (martinimomma)

  • At around 5-6 months adjusted the boys were typically eating six 5oz bottles a day. So 28-32oz sounds totally normal to me.

  • 28-32 oz is about what DS was eating at that age. Sounds right on to me. Definitely try and get her off the RTF Alimentum- that sh*t is hella expensive!

  • At 5 months, P ate 5 6oz bottles per day, so that seems normal to me.
  • LOL, glad to know DD is right on track...to send us to the poorhouse!  We'll be moving on to powdered formula soon!

  • I see I'm late to the thread, but that sounds normal to me.  I think at 5 months, I was sending him to daycare with 4 5-oz bottles a day (so 20 right there) and then I was nursing him once in the morning and once at home and occasionally in the middle of the night. So I can only assume he was taking at least 30 oz a day.  And when we switched to formula at 7 months he didn't start taking less, his quantities stayed roughly the same from whatever BM quantity he was on at the time.

    C eats 30-32ish a day at 3 months old. She's only like 12 1/2 lbs too :)

Good to know.  And here I thought A might be overeating.  Not so much.  :)
