Little ones Kidneys are dialated. Anyone else?

I had to get a 38 week ultrasound to see if I had low fluid (I don't), but they found my baby had a dialated kidney & I was told after birth he needs an ultrasound.

Anyone else ever experience this??

Yes. But they said it can go away later,& it did for us. They said even if it didn't go away, your baby might need antibiotics to avoid a bladder infection, and rarely (worst case scenario) your LO could need a very minor procedure.

My daughter did, at one month old we had already spent a week in the hospital for a kidney infection. Since then she is on antibiotics daily and an ultrasound and VCUG yearly. It's not a huge deal, just be sure to get the ultrasound done quickly.

My ds3 had slightly dilated kidneys. Dr says no worries. It's very common in boys

Yes, I found out at my anatomy scan for DD. I had to have ultrasounds every 4 weeks to check on them until the end of pregnancy. She had the ultrasound at the hospital less than 24 hours after she was born and her kidneys were 100% normal!

I hope you have the same experience, but like PP said even if they are dilated after birth it'll be okay and a pediatric urologist will decide on antibiotics for your baby in the meanwhile. I read that it usually clears up within a year after birth, but if not (as PP said) there is a minor surgery that will be done to correct it.
