hi I'm new to the whole bump/forum thing so don't kill me
my DS was born 9/25/13 but he was a month early so I'm not entirely sure which birth month I fall in. also any tips on breaking DS of swaddling would be muuuuch appreciated!!
Welcome! We bought baby merlins magic sleep suit and it has worked wonders for us. Before, if DD was put down unswaddled, she was up in 10 minutes or less. Now she will go down several hours at a time.

I have a question for you @bkennicott11: what makes you want to join this month's board at this point in the whole process? And, do you plan on staying* and contributing to the questions and dilemmas that other mothers might have?
*staying around meaning like for maybe the next few months, not the next few days...
@kimberlymacrae I'm just now getting involved because I've been busy in the NICU and multiple hospital stays, also physical therapy and different medical studies. basically I've constantly had the reassurance of nurses to help answer any questions or doubts that I've had. I plan on contributing as much as possible but being an overly paranoid FTM I'm not sure that I can provide much experience (hope that's not a deal breaker). I'm just looking for a group of supportive like minded mommies
I get the reason why you didn't join in for months after your baby was born. I am sorry your son had complications.
Follow up to @kimberlymacrae's question. Why didn't you join while pregnant? Before having my son I figured I would stop participating after my baby was born. I thought this was a group for pregnancy. Now, you can't make me leave.
We took DD's arms out of her swaddle first, when she was still in the bassinet and had something beside her to help her feel confined. After she got used to that, we took the swaddle away and used a sleep sack, still in the bassinet. Then we transferred her to the crib, and she is still in her sleep sack. I don't really see the reason to get her out of that now, but eventually we will get her in sleep and plays, but I don't think that will be hard.
@bkennicott11: We are supportive, but it's a two way street so I am glad you plan on staying around As far as like minded mommies... that's a whole different ballgame. We aren't all like minded which is one of the strengths of our board.
Welcome! I don't really have great advice on the swaddle issue, we just stopped doing it one day, kind of on accident. I've heard transitioning to one arm out, then both arms out (in a Halo sleep sack) is pretty effective.
My baby is still swaddled with no end in sight. He is a month older than yours. I guess I should get on trying to wean him from it....he just loves it so much. Give us updates and let us know how your attempts go. I can't afford to get the magic sleep suit. I wish I could. =(
Welcome! I'm pretty new too and have been taking the last week to read up and get a better understanding of how this board works so I could contribute more meaningfully. I hope your son is doing well now!
My baby boy transitioned straight to the sleep sack. I've found the ones made by just born called wear-a-blanket are comforting to him- they have a Velcro piece on the inside almost like a belt across the chest that gives a little extra snugness and comfyness. I also got a great deal on them at my babies r us a couple of weeks ago- they were on sale for about $5 each!
Welcome to board! My dtr is about 4.5 mos old and from 2-4 months I dropped the swaddle. Now she has this, rogue, flailing arm that startles her awake, hits herself (or me when nursing) and so I have been putting her in the halo sleep sack for bed. She is STTN (sleeping thru the night) and if I swaddle for naps, she'll actually sleep longer than 30 mins. I say do what works best for you and what gives you and baby some Z's!!
Welcome! No advice on the swaddle since our LO despised them and was Houdini from the start! But lots of other bumpies will have some experience. Good luck!
Welcome! We thought our LO loved the swaddle, but once we stopped she slept so much better. We use the fleece swaddleme sleep sack with the arms out option. We still put the swaddle part a bit snug around her midsection, but arms out.
We quit cold turkey when we found her covering her mouth with it because she was fighting too much. She did pretty well with the transition very quickly.
Welcome! We went from the SwaddleMe or an a+a swaddle to the Magic Sleepsuit with a short transition. I'm thinking of transitioning him out of it in the next few weeks to a sleep sack but the MMSS really helped the transition from tightly swaddled to arms freer.
This. DS will outgrow the MMSS in a few weeks and we will go to sleep sacks. I tried going from the swaddle straight to the sleep sack and that didn't work out for us. Good luck to you.
Welcome !!! I came late to the group too, I definitely recommend sticking around. I had the same experience as @ravenclaw1. DS ended up rolling back to tummy early so it worked out well he transitioned to his sleep sack around 5 weeks. He did like his just born and Carters wearable blankets better in the beginning, I think they were more snuggly. Now he's in the Halo sleep sack.
Welcome! Our babies have the same birthday! I'm going through the same process right now. I've been trying the one arm out method this week and I'm noticing much shorter naps. He flails his arms like crazy so it's hard to let him have his arms loose. Good luck and welcome aboard.
so it's been a few days of cold turkey. amazingly he rolled completely over to his belly for the first time yesterday morning! he still flails his arms but he is also learning to self soothe himself back to sleep. I'm glad to read that other babies still flail about (I'm always worried he's behind). The only downside to not swaddling him is that now he is all over the crib. I found both legs in the rails last night so DH went out and bought a breathable crib bumper. I'm still trying to figure out how he gets into some of the positions I find him in lol

DD never liked being swaddled so I don't have any advice there, but GL!

Alexis never liked to be swaddled so we got lucky there.
