s/o Naps, One-napper question...

For those of you that have one-napper babies...

Right now DD has been attempting to drop from 2 naps to 1 and has been doing so pretty well at DC but still naps twice at home.  Once she only takes one nap, how do you guys plan your day?  Right now if I want to do a good shower with hair done, I do it during nap one.  She is such an early bird that I cannot fathom getting up before her in the morning.  If she goes to one nap, it is going to be way too late to shower for the day and i'm going to want to use that time to get things done around the house.

Anyway, what does your one nap day look like?

  • Mine is a late sleeper, she got up at 9:30 this morning. I shower before she gets up.

If you have an early riser though, can you shower the night before? I don't really like doing that but it's better than having to wait until noon.

  • Yeah, I guess I could, this sounds ditzy but it makes my hair difficult *sheepish*.   I probably will have to just suck it up and do that most days eh... boo.  I like two naps. :) I cannot even fathom no naps!!!

  • Ds takes a 2 hour nap at 1:30ish. I take a shower at night or in the morning with him in the GoPod in the bathroom.

I shower with DD in the dry tub because I can see her from the shower stall in the mirror. She loves it, gets to play with her toys, stays out of the cabinets---win-win. We haven't locked our cabinets because we're moving soon. :\">

Eta: I hate showering at night because my hair gets weird, too. It's straight and fine so it just gets weirdly flat and doesn't style well. I feel ya. ;-)

  • I have 2 babies, and they both just stick around the shower in the bathroom with me. I can't leave them by themselves because they will either kill themselves, each other or they will duo and make everything messy! Is there a way to have her in the bathroom at the same time? I know it's not ideal, because it's nice to have that time to just be by yourself etc... but it works pretty well for us :)

  • She might start sleeping in a bit if she only goes down to one nap? Maybe that's just hopeful, I can't complain because DD is an awesome sleeper.

GL, I'm sort of dreading 1 nap.
  • I too hate the night time shower but I refuse to get up at 4am so I can shower in the morning.4:45 is bad enough just so I can straighten my hair! We are still two naps....one nap sounds great and awful!

  • DS is an early riser, too, and used to sleep for only 20-30 minutes day and my hair looked like crap for a year.  Seriously, I think it was in a pony tail for 363 days in a row.

Something magical happened when he turned 1, though, as he's has consistently been sleeping for 1.5-2 hours in the morning and just ADDED an afternoon nap this past week.  So now I have time to shower AND blow my hair dry.

Maybe you could bring back the 70s turban look?

  • I've got a walk-around that I just bring in to the bathroom to put DS#2 in.  DS#1 does fine out in the loft with his toys, but #2 still needs supervision.  For a while I had our Pack N Play in the bathroom (well, just outside the door) with some toys in it for #2 to play in.  I've just learned to leave all doors open since no one else is home anyway.  Are my showers the long, relaxing showers they used to be?  Nope!  But I do get clean, the boys both live, and the mess isn't too bad (DS#1 is pretty good at cleaning up his mess).  Weekends with DH home are when I have my long showers :)

  • Ugh.... DD is down to no naps most days... She was never a good napper, so this isn't really too surprising, but I'm sad it happened so soon.

She dropped to one afternoon nap about four months ago, and her wake up time in the morning is never consistent, so I've through the same dilemma. The only thing I've been able to make work is letting her have some books or soft toys in the corner of her crib when she goes to bed at night, so when she wakes up in the morning, she can keep herself entertained until I'm done showering and all that.
