May 2014 Moms

Passed 3 hour glucose!!!

Hello! I never really post but really enjoy reading about everyone's experiences as I wait for out little boy to arrive in May. I was super scared and nervous when I didn't pass my 1 hour glucose test because I have worked so hard to be healthy (I am generally pretty healthy so it surprised me that I didn't pass).

Anyhow I am sooo happy to share that I passed the 3 hour test with flying colors. If you didn't pass the 1 hour don't stress out too much, just eat and excercise as best you can, there's soo many factors that play into the 1 hour test.

Yay to being done with that scare, back to getting the nursary ready (aka cleaning out our guest room)!!

And congrats to all the other May mommies-to-be!

  • Congrats!! I just took my one hour test Friday hoping I passed!
  • Yay!! I have my 3 hour next weekend. I'm doing it when my mom is working because I don't have the best veins, and if someone's going to poke me 4 times I'd rather it be her.
  • ugh.  Comon.  FFS.  I have GD, I just suck.  You know all that unhealthy eating and crap I"ve done...only I can barely eat with the HG, so......  Yupp I'll just be healthier and all my problems are solved yo!

  • Really? She even said if you didn't pass it the first time not to stress it bc you can eat well and exercise like she had been doing but it doesn't mean anything. I don't give a shit what your opinion of me is... But I think it's completely uncalled for the attitudes some of you ladies have on here. You don't run this website. If someone wants to post something they have every damn right in the world to. We don't have to abide by "your rules". If she wants to post an AW thread as her first post by God it's a free country. Grow up and quit being bullies.
  • I just can't.  I"m going to go eat what my HG allows me to, all carbs, and do the exercise I"m allowed to do on bedrest...none.  But it is still a better use of my time.

Nobody was bullying her, they just pointed out some inaccuracies in her advice. The reality is there really isn't anything any of us can do to prevent GD.

Thank you to those who posted that poor diet does not cause pree. Just like doing Brewers or any other diet will not prevent pree. I get so tired of hearing that. It puts blame on the mother and makes it seem like she did something to cause it. And it is just flat misinformation. All of the recent research suggests that pree is caused by how the spiral arteries implant into the uterus early in pregnancy.

Are they able to detect this on early u/s now to predict pre-e?

Not that I am aware, but there are tests to predict pree but none are available in the US yet.

Not too much can be seen on an ultrasound in terms of the vascular component of the placenta...especially not on a microscopic level.

  • @savannah_girl - I have heard of that before, but I interpreted the question to mean in an ultrasound early on...As in first tri. In many severe cases, onset/symptoms start happening around that time or even before. With my ds, my bp was already up and my son's growth had already started slow by about 24-26 weeks.

I was meaning earlier on. It's interesting to hear about the notching. My bp normally runs around a max of 110/65 and today it was 130/82 which has me worries. Especially after hearing severe morning sickness in first tri can be an early symptom. I'm definitely going to mention it when I call my OB tomorrow and see what he says. I keep telling myself that my BP could just be up because of the UTI though.
