NBR: Q for those that have bought invites on Etsy

[first off, I am not trying to solicit in any way....hence no company name being mentioned:) ]
I didn't want to hijack the thread, but I was reading the responses about when/where to buy shower invites. A majority of you said Etsy. I am looking for a little feedback about what makes you go with a particular seller on there? I have my own business and I use to be on etsy but closed it down last year bc there are so many other sellers. I felt like it was overwhelming and it was a luck of the draw. I just sell strictly off of my FB page, but have thought about starting etsy again.
Do you just look at samples and purchase one you like or do focus more on price? What do you consider a fair price for the files? ....I also want to know what you think is a great turn around time?

EDIT: (to add my "selling" style) - I do high resolution digital file for $12. They can buy photo style prints and envelopes for 60 cents each or 110# card stock and envelope for $1.20 each. I do give a discount on price for higher quantity card stock orders. (I sell several other items too....but invites are always what I am most curious about)
For those that order actual invites, what is a fair shipping price? I do $5.50 unless it is wedding invites bc they normally involve a box to ship. I just saw a VISTA print commercial (darn them, lol) and I they offer free shipping on orders over $25. Is that a big plus for buyers? I told DH I think I am going to offer something like that too (except for on wedding orders - again, big boxes).
I am glad to hear so many of you say communication is a big thing. That is a huge thing for me. I constantly check my email and try to get back with in hours (day or night). For already made designs (where they are just changing info), I get those out with in 24 hours. If a brand new design is created, I have the file emailed within 24-48 hours. If they want prints they are shipping within 1-3 business day of cleared payment.
Sound Fair?? And THANKS for all of the input!

  • I look at the images more than price. I also never buy the invitations where they print them for you, I personally only buy the digital files so I can get them printed myself. I spend a LOT of time searching through whatever search I am looking for (birthday theme, shower theme, Christmas cards) to find the one I like the most, and every one I have used is usually priced between $12-$20 for the digital file.

  • Pretty much what pp said, except I've found some off Pinterest too that link to etsy. I usually go for whatever ones I think are cutest. I've never noticed which seller I'm buying from in particular tbh.

  • I just bought Valentine's Day Cards for my son's pre-school class on etsy. In the past I have purchased Baby Shower Invites. I would say creativity is my #1 deciding factor, with cost coming in second (can't afford $5 invites). I also like a quick response/communication and flexibility with # needed- with a discount in price per piece as I order more. For me, I avoid buying the 'print it yourself' downloads, although I'm sure there are buyers out there. I would also just recommend giving the option of giving them the actual invitation- as I think that would open you up to more buyers (even if you charge a bunch more for that option).
  • I have been searching etsy like crazy for bridal shower invitations. I wanted to show them to my Mom because she wasn't sure where to find cute invitations. I love that some are priced between 10-15 because it does add up when you consider buying the card stock, envelopes and ink for your printer. It adds up and both price and design are almost equally important to me. It's an invitation that people will throw out so I hate to spend a fortune on it.
I never pay attention to the store names. I just search invites for ones I like.

I have a few on Pinterest linked back to FB. I probably need to get better at putting them on there.

  • we have purchased invites from Etsy several times. My primary thing to look for is the design I like, followed closely by price. Im cheap so I wouldn't pay more than $10 for a file. Also, communication is key - quick and friendly!

  • I only look for one thing.  Design.  If it's the design/style I want I buy, I don't really care about the price.  If I am having a Sofia the First Party I am going to find my favorite Sofia invite even if it's a pricer one.
