Can you wash stuffed animals?

This probably seems like a stupid question, but can I throw DS's stuffed animals in the washing machine? I looked at a couple and it doesn't say anything on the tags. They're just covered and gross baby boogies from him being sick and I'd like to clean them! Thanks!

  • I wash my DD's in a pillow case on delicate also.  To try, I clip them on pant hangers and hang to air dry.
  • I do.  I don't put them in the dryer though.  Some hold up better than others.

If you have a stuffed animal that might not hold up in the washing machine or you just don't want to mess with drying it out, you can use the baking soda method.

Fill a plastic bag with 1/2 cup of baking soda. Put the stuffed animal inside and shake. Vacuum and wipe it off.

  • I appreciate all the great tips! They're in the wash now in a pillowcase on gentle. ::Fingers crossed:: :-)

  • Ever since I heard the pillow case tip and started using one every time, we haven't lost a stuffed animal to the washing machine yet. That being said all it ever did was make their fur all clumpy or split a seam.

  • Wash but don't put it in the dryer. My IL's put DH's Ernie stuffed doll in the washer and dryer when he was little, and the hair was never the same after that.
  • I've always had good luck washing them. I just toss them in with his laundry and I've never had an issue. I also wash baseball caps with success, too! GL!
  • Stitch and a bulldog just came out of the wash. They're fine.

  • I pressed my luck and put them in the dryer in a pillowcase on "super gentle". They were still slightly damp, so air-drying the rest of the way, but they all seem to be the same as before!
