I need ideas with the cold we are basically suck inside! We read, we have a play kitchen, other various toys that keep her interest for maybe 20 minutes. She can watch and hour of TV (which is usually Sesame Street) but I am running out of ideas!!
The most used toy in our house are the large cardboard boxes that come with my Amazon Prime delivery each month. The kids make "houses" and use markers to "decorate" them. Including my toddler. She loves it. She also loves her big brother's train sets.
Do you live close to any malls, museums, etc? We are lucky enough to be in an urban area where we have memberships to several places where we can go and just let the kids run and explore for an entire morning. Makes a huge difference in our sanity.
LOL - my kids love amazon delivery day. Big boxes are the best! Think about your day like school - do art (coloring, painting, sticking pictures or cut out shapes onto paper) then music (dance, make instruments, etc) then PE, reading, puzzles, Legos, etc.
I think it's pretty high expectations to think they can self entertain for more than 20 min at this age.
We paint in the bath tub, jump on the bed, race sit on toys downstairs (I'm little lol) Also, I bring in the cups of nuts and bolts and tools and we "work on things"
Thank you all for the great ideas! I just seriously can't wait till summer we spend all our time outside which burns so much energy! We just joined an indoor rec club so swimming is going to be happening a lot! I like breaking up the day like school its a fun way to look at it!
I like to include DD in stuff I'm doing around the house like cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. She LOVES LOVES to cook! We bake a lot of muffins. With laundry she loves sorting clothes into different piles by color and then she will help carry them to the washing machine. cleaning - give her just a wet rag to clean the floor. She also helps feed the dog. She will get his food bowl, scoop it herself and serve it to him. I also do a lot of arts and crafts with her (I love art stuff) and music. The library is great too! They have tons of free programs.

We live in the dreary state here. So from October to April/May kids don't get out much. It's too cold and rainy here. So finding things to do indoors is a must. We still do find ourselves going nuts and watching too much Nick JR some days though. We got a YMCA membership for the family a few months ago. So far we've done swimming lessons, tumbling (for the older kid), and a preschool-esque class (for the older kid). There tons of drop in classes for my younger one though. So things like music and art type stuff. Plus We'll do free swim, play in their play place, spedn time playing with kids in child watch while I do a class.
At home we have lots of tunnels, we turned out PnP into a ball pit, we have a slide in the play room, lots of sensory activities, and a learning tower in the kitchen so we can do things like dishes and bake!
