What time is your LO's bedtime?

Tonight we are going to start sleep training DD.  Everything I have been reading recommends the consistent sleep routine, which I thought we had, but after some logging, turns out we didn't have at all.  What time are you putting LO to bed?  Many of the books say about 7pm is normal.  Is that true for you?  We have been putting LO to bed around 8:30pm.

  • His bedtime routine starts at 7:30 and he is put down at 8. But he doesn't have to wake up at any set time and usually gets up around 8. If we had to wake up for daycare or work earlier than that I would definitely move up his bed time.

I usually have her pajamas on and her bottle warming up by 8, and it's about 8:15 or 8:30 by the time she is asleep. It works well for us and she has been going to sleep fairly easy (knock on wood) so I don't feel the need to make it earlier. When I go back to work and have to wake her earlier in the AM, I'll put her to bed earlier. Right now she wakes up pretty consistently at 7:45.

ETA Oh, and if you're going to sleep train...I would start with the usual bedtime. I wouldn't make it earlier or it might make it harder. After the sleep training I would gradually put her down earlier, if you think it's necessary. (I remember when I was reading up on the Ferber method, it mentioned not to put them down earlier)

  • Thanks @scormier123 !  I didn't even think about that. Did you end up doing Ferber?

  • 7 no matter what we do by 715 he's in meltdown mode. That means he's up for the day at 530 usually plus at least 1 MOTN feeding. Last night we were struggling with reflux and his ear and he ended up being up from 945-1130 and once we actually got him back I sleep he slept till 730. I'm hoping when daylight savings hits we can have an 8pm bedtime and he'll sleep later

Well...I tried. I wanted to sleep train just to get her to go to bed at night on her own without rocking. I started doing the Ferber method and she would get increasingly more upset each time I would go in, and I would always cave. I gave up on it, and finally decided to try not going in at all. While she did cry longer, she never cried hard. It was more like whining. By the 3rd night she was asleep in less than 10 minutes, and has been pretty good since (knock on wood!)

Some babies do really well with Ferber though, and really need those comfort checks. It just depends on your baby and what you're comfortable with.

  • Our LO is an early riser - usually around 5:00 AM, so bedtime routine starts at 5:30 with solids, a long bath, snuggles and calm playtime then bed usually around 6:30 to 7:00.

    6:45- bath, lotion, pj's
7:00- I am feeding her bottle to her and then she goes straight to bed.
She is usually asleep around 7:15-7:20. :)

  • Around 7:30/8:00. Occasionally she's up until 8:30/9:00 if she falls asleep on the way home from daycare. Typically sleeps until about 7am.

This has been our schedule for pretty close to 6 months.  He usually only takes two naps, last one around 3:00, so he's ready for bed by 7.  He sleeps through the night and is usually awake by 7 am.

  • G goes to bed at 6.  He's a weirdo.
  • We usually start the routine around 7pm. If she is taking a bath in the tub then we start at 6:45. She sleeps until 7:45 am.

  • E goes about 8:30pm but sometimes it can be as late as 10pm.

  • We do dinner, bath, pjs, book, and then boob. LO is usually asleep by 8.

  • E goes to sleep at 6. I've tried pushing it to 7 and it was a disaster. Somedays it's not so bad but when she is ready to start her day at 4am, not so much.
  • We typically start his routine at 7:30 and he's usually sleeping by 8:30/9.
  • Bath at 6:30 and then pj's and bottle.  She is usually asleep by 7:15!  We've been doing this since she was 3-4 months old and it's been great.  I definately recommend getting a routine down.  As far as a time, if you want to try 7pm start by putting her down at 8 or 7:45 and slowly working your way to 7pm.
  • J just moved his own bedtime back. We were putting him to bed by 7:30 but he wasn't having it and would wind up worked up and upset for an hour before he decided it was time to sleep at 8:30.  We now start his routine around 8:00 and he's asleep by 8:30.
  • We go into her room to have her bottle and rock at 7:45 or 8. Sometimes she falls asleep rocking, but usually goes into her crib drowsy and will watch her aquarium for a few minutes before falling asleep. She is always out by 8:30. She sleeps until 7:30 am, give to take a few. No MoTN feedings.

  • Dinner at 5:15, bath at 6:30, Pj's and bottle, then in bed by 7:00. It might vary 15 minutes earlier or later but we have been on that schedule since October. He wakes for a 5 am bottle, plays in his crib a bit then takes a small cat nap and is up for the day by 6:30.

  • We read a few books about 10 til 7, watch The Wheel and then nurse at 7:30, bath if it's a bath night, pj's then his bedtime book and a quick nurse before he goes down in his crib. He usually sleeps 7:45-8 til 6am, nurses and sometimes falls back asleep for another hour.

Do you ladies do a bath for LO every night? We still do every other night.

  • wow I feel weird, we put S to bed early I guess. S eats her "dinner" at 5:30, and she usually makes it till about 6:30 before she wants to go to bed. Most nights she's passed out before 7.

  • We start the routine with a bath around 7 and depending on how tired he is, he's asleep between 7:30 and 8.

  • We start bedtime routine between 7 and 7:30 depending on his signals. It usually also depends on if he fell asleep on the way home from daycare or not.
  • We start winding down around 5pm. Bed clothes and bath/dinner, light play and then cuddling to bed around 8:30pm.

  • DD usually goes to bed about 8pm and gets up at 7 ish with a few wake ups to nurse or whatever. I have been starting to put her to bed just prior to 8 as she has been up partying lately

  • B goes to bed no later than 7:30.

  • Looks like we are the crazy ones, C goes to sleep between 845-945 but usually sleeps until about 9am.
  • I take A to his room around 8, read him a couple books, "good night moon" him, and then latch him on.  He'll nurse for any where from 30-45 min before he's out.  Usually I put him to bed dead asleep between 9:30-10:30.  He still wakes up 2-3 times a night for some boob, and we're up for the day at 7.

  • Asleep no later than 7:30.
  • Anywhere between 6:30-8pm. It depends on his naps. The days he barely naps, he's ready for bed around 6:00.

I'm noticing on nights we put him to bed around 9pm he sleeps longer stretches. All the sleep books I've ready say bedtime between 6-7pm but I'm wondering if that doesn't work for him.

We've always done a bath every night, but he only gets washed with soap every other day.
