This reflux is out of control!

Morning sickness has given way to a more terrible symptom... REFLUX. If I eat anything solid, it comes back up within 15-30 minutes. Not all at once, but a mouthful at a time, over the course if 1 1/2 - 2 hours, sometimes longer than that. I spend on average 4-5 hours a day over a trash can. I have my protonix prescription, I eat small meals, avoid trigger foods, chew gum after eating, sit up after eating, take tums, zofran, b6, unisom and have had no relief. I can only do so many liquid meals before my hunger takes over and I try to eat. Suggestions? I'm on week 4 of this lovely problem.

  • I am inhaling tums these days :( so far my worst symptom!

  • I keep rolaids stashed all over the house. My mom told today that acid reflux means the baby will have hair on their head when they are born. And that the severity is based on how much hair. Sounds like your baby is going to be born with some lush locks!

Side note - of course this is an OWT so believe if you want. :P

  • My doc approved Pepcid, and it's been a godsend.  I've never been one for much reflux, but these days it doesn't even take something spicy- I've gotten it off plain buttered bread!

And @csmith0085, I've been told the same thing about the hair.... by now, I'm pretty sure I'm gestating Rapunzel!

Same. I don't even have to eat, even water drives me crazy. Zantac 150 has helped it a bit. I like the minty one. And it's one of the two kaiser and my ob recommends as safe if you need it. I had to take it the last 6 months of my first pregnancy so I was prepared for the same this time.

  • Most midwives and md's have Zantac on their approved meds list! Try that...with my first and this one I am eating tums until 20 wks and then I'll switch to Zantac. 20 wks is the point where my heartburn and reflux gets uncontrollable. Good luck ladies
  • How fun! I had not heard that reflux= a head of hair. That might make it a little easier... Or not. Lol.
  • I take Zantac. I had it with my DD really bad. And she was born with a huge head of hair :)

  • My doc had me take Zantac with my last pregnancy too. I waited waaay too long to ask for it too, this time around I'm bringing it up as soon as the heartburn/reflux strikes. Zantac cleared my symptoms up so fast last time I felt like a moron for just trying to tough it out with Tums for so long.
