cooking cooking cooking :D

With all the discussions about baby food I felt like cooking LO's purées for the week today. I usually buy prepared baby food for the days I work and then I cook the other days and serve fresh. I will try to cook everything on Sat or Sun for now on :)

Let's see if he likes it even if it has been refrigerated...

What about you? Do you cook for LO everyday/in the weekend/never?

  • I have been making batches of food and freezing it. Today is carrots since some of the ones in the basement were starting to go bad. I will keep some fresh puree and freeze everything else in ice cube trays.
  • Loading the player...
  • I made a big batch (28 pouches) last Friday that should last for a while.  Next weekend I plan on making another batch with some more interesting combinations, as all of the ones I made previously are single fruits/veggies.  I froze them all and just take out a pouch the night before I plan to feed it to her.

K I feel stupid asking this but for apples, do you guys steam cook them before pureeing or do you do it raw? Does it freeze okay? Do you add lemon juice so it won't brown? He is getting tired of single flavours but I've only frozen carrots, butternut squash and meats so I I need something tastey to mix in.

I steamed them (quartered and cored) with the skins on to retain some of the nutrients. Then I let them cool, peeler the skin off, and put them in the blender, adding a bit of the water used to steam. No lemon juice necessary... It just looks like applesauce once frozen/refrigerated, and that's fine.

Thanks :) what kind of apples did you use? Macs or empires?
  • I've usually been making her food on Sundays to last the week. We're still only doing single fruits/veggies. So far I've done sweet potatoes, carrots, and butternut squash. I'll probably do peas next, and maybe spinach after that.
  • @rondosa I read to use golden or red delicious, as they have the least amount of acid that could upset their tummies :)

  • I always make his good in advance and freeze it. He seems fine with it!

  • I made 2 dishes for him: chicken, potatoes, zucchini and carrots; and chicken, broccoli and cauliflower. We are way past the single fruit/veggie stage. He does eat single fruit in the mornings though. Dinner is always a mixture of veggies and some carb (potato, rice or pasta) plus olive oil or margarine. Sometimes I add meat :)

I will try pancakes soon! Thanks for the idea!

We live in Holland so I'm following the food schema that they use here:
    - Morning breast
    - A bit later fruit and some water
    - Lunch: breast and 1 bread slice with margarine or some spread (peanut butter, hummus, etc)
    - Mid- afternoon: cracker, breadstick, biscuit or ricewafle with water
    - Dinner: 2 spoons of cooked veggies, 1 spoon of meat or fish, 1 spoon of rice/pasta/potato, 1 teaspoon of oil or margarine.

He seems to be doing fine and almost always finishing everything :)
