Diaper changing woes

So LO will be lying there completely peaceful. I will notice that his diaper feels heavy and go to change him. He goes beserk everytime. Screaming, crying, the works. I'm assuming this is normal for Lo's, but I was wondering what I can do to make this more comfortable for him. I don''t want changing time to be stressful for him as we are changing very frequently.

I've tried singing and music. Is there even anything that can be done here, or is it just one of those things?

Re: Diaper changing woes

  • Some warm the wipes to try and make it more comfortable, but I don't. I just move a quickly as possible. Babies don't like it but they will get use to it as time goes on so the crying might ease up. They will adapt to it over time from what I can tell.

Yep, totally normal. I try to do diaper changes when I'm trying to wake DS up before or in the middle of a feeding, but of course often I have to do them when I'd rather he be calm.

  • @innanni - the bottle is a good idea, although would only really work with changings during/around feeding time. We have attempted the paci and that works occasionally.

At this point I think my only solution is to grow more arms, lol.

  • Granted my LO is only 2days old, but she doesn't like to be unswaddled or naked. They have so little body fat on them to begin with that I think being naked at anytime is uncomfortable. I think it's normal.
  • I have the same problem do I've figured out if u keep their upper half wrapped in blanket/swaddle and stick a paci in their mouth it helps. But I do think it's because the wipes are cold...I wasn't going to get a wipe warmer but now I think I might!

  • We do it really fast here. I mean it is a cold wipe stuck to his bum so it is pretty rough. I myself am not a fan of wet wipes for that very reason.

Sometimes though I try swaddling just his upper half and stick a paci in his mouth and it helps a lot.

  • Same problem here, he gets so mad he ends up farting and has pooped on me 3xs! Lol it's a messy job but someone had to do it ;) I just try andgo as fast as possible.
  • For those thinking about wipe warmers they dry your wipes out quickly and you will still have to use cold wipes everywhere except home.

  • We just go as fast as possible. We have been fairly lucky though-LO seems to like the changing pad. As long as she has a clean diaper on and is redressed, she is totally fine just laying there and looking around. Usually we take a couple minutes after the change to calm down and regroup before getting going again.
