Affordable double jogging stroller?

I'm in the market to purchase a double jogging stroller for my 18 mo twin boys. I was wondering if anyone had success with a specific brand-name? I hear that BOB is the best, but it's a little (or a lot) out of my price range. I have been looking at Instep and Baby Trend double joggers. I'm looking to use it to train for 5 and 10Ks.

Any feedback on brands, features, etc. would be helpful! Thanks!

  • I got a double bob on Craigslist for 300$. Gotta love Craigslist!

  • For actual running, I hear the BOB's are the best.  But be careful of used ones, they just had a recall of Britax, and they included BOBs in the recall.

I have a Tike tech.  It's okay.  I don't love it.  It doesn't fit in my minivan's cargo space (I have an older model with a smaller space) unless I want to take wheels off all the time.  The front wheel is really hard to reinflate, you need to get different sized attachments for the bike pump.  That said, I like it for walks around the neighborhood, the zoo, anywhere it's not perfectly flat.  It pushes smoothly.  I have not run with it though.

I highly suggest trying to find some in store to try out and see if they fit your needs.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • I have both a single bob and the duallie. I got the duallie new on amazon for $400 during one of their sales. They still run them every so often, so look out for them if you decide that's what you want.

Also, if you have a buy buy baby near you, you can use bed bath and beyond 20% off coupons there since it's the same company.

Otherwise Craigslist is a good way to go.

Woa! Thanks for the tip! Awesome!
  • my .02 worth... I am not a runner, by any means. I have read reviews on here from other MoMs of the InStep stroller and the common complaint is the "leg-drop" portion, from the edge of the seat going straight down, is a very short distance compared to other jogger strollers on the market that have a taller leg-drop. So, either their feet dangle at at earlier age, or their knees may seem to be awkwardly high.
Check consignment stores and get put on their "wanted" list, if they have one. My favorite cons. store has such a list for someone looking for a specific item and it can speed up the search process as well as score a good deal. That way you can avoid calling every day or going in the store every day to search.

  • I am a runner and we just bought the Baby Trend double stroller. I'm too pregnant to run with it right now but it seems okay. The front wheel isn't great but apparently it gets better with more use. Also raising and lowering the seats are a little weird. Other than that it actually seems okay, at least for the price. I would love to hear from a MoM who is actually using one.

  • I did my research back when I was pregnant and decided I wanted a Bob. I started an Amazon registry just for the stroller. Then when there was a big sale, I bought it with the registry completion discount (15% with Amazon Mom) so it was only about $350. BB&B coupons can be used at Buy Buy Baby but there are a ton of brand exclusions. I believe Bob is on the list because I was looking into that option as well. My twins aren't big enough to ride in it yet (plus there's like 10 feet of snow on the ground), so I can't give my opinion on it, just wanted to let you know there are ways to get a discount.
