Were Your Lady Bits Cleaned/Shaven for Delivery?

edited February 2014 in September 2013 Moms
So I had my first appt. for LO #2 today which meant I had to trim and mow 'down there', it got me to thinking (yes I was thinking about this board will shaving my lady bits). I was thinking even if you were going in for a planned c-section they'd still be all up in your junk with the cathater and shiz.

Were you "all cleaned up" down there when you had your LO?

Hell no, I never shaved down there while pregnant, or ever for that matter.

Nope, we were in a rush so it didn't get done.

I went somewhere and had it officially trimmed and waxed (etc.) prior to delivery.

I did the job myself but my water broke a week before my due date so I wasn't expecting it. If I had an induction date I would have been better prepared!

I voted SS. I don't think it was too bad. But that because I let DH take some clippers to it a few times while I was pregnant.

ETA: I had an induction date and didn't know I was having a c section and still didn't clean it like I would have liked.

It made it kind of shitty for the tape from my scar
  • I keep it pruned but not bare.
This is me, too.  Completely bare is creepy to me.

  • @starscream: NAIR?? Holy moses you are a brave women. I put NAIR on my lady bits at like 22 weeks and that shit checmical burned me to death. SO PAINFUL.

@AFwifelife: HA HA HA! That sounds like an awesome nurse. I HATED my cath! It was like the most painful and the most uncomfortable. And I had to keep switching from my right to left side while laboring and if I move the tube the cath would hurt SO bad. Was yours like that?

  • I did the best job I could while pregnant, but it wasn't the loveliest lady landscape you've ever seen.

My water broke in the middle of the night a week early, so H and I were rubbing around like nuts trying to get out the house. Next time, I'll take the time to shower and make myself half decent before going to the hospital.

All testing shows both H and I are perfectly normal. Baby Nacho had triploidy.

  • I let that jungle grow wild!

The nurse had to shave a little bit of the top part off before my c-section and I was like "Sorry, I can't see down there anymore!"  To which she replied, "Honestly, when women come in here all perfectly manicured I think they're crazy - why would you bother?"

In my defense, I am also very pale and light-haired so my hairiest is probably well-groomed for some people.

  • @adrd47:  Thank goodness it wasn't just me. The cath is literally one of the reasons I think I am going to try and labor at home longer this time around. It was so bad. I kept asking the nurse if it was normal. And I asked her if I could feel that then what was I going to feel during delivery. Between that and fighting the urge to poop myself I barely remember anything. I remember when they took the cath out and I was all "THANK YOU BABY JESUS"

  • I I didn't since about 5 months pregnant. I never do it for dr anyway. I will only do it for DH but I was having complications so on pelvic rest and I really don't care what my dr thinks
  • Self trimmed, but not just for delivery, that is how I keep it  :\">

  • I stopped shaving around 38 weeks and had LO at 41.5 weeks. I don't think it was a jungle, but I never looked.

  • Not a fan of hair anywhere except my head so I'm always cleanly shaven..hubby had to help a little when it was hard to reach with my belly. Sometimes, I grow a little landing strip but it's rare.

    This exactly.

Hubby helped me once but it was awkward so I figured it out on my own and only brought him in for inspection.
  • SS- trimmed as best as I could, ended up with a csection so they shaved a bit more.

This is me too. I've kept it this way for years and when it starts growing in, it's itchy and uncomfortable. When it was determined I needed a c section the nurses came in to prep me and then mentioned I did their job for them.

  • I get waxed monthly; even all during my pregnancy too. The exception was waiting 2mos. after my c-sect to wax again.

  • I get waxed as well, but was about 2 weeks post wax when my water broke. So I wasn't completely bare, but it could have been worse.
  • @kimberlymacrae my catheter was brutal. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my whole life. I wanted to rip it out, despite my epi, because it was like torture. It made me feel like I had to pee like a racehorse through the whole labor and I was thrilled when they took it out. I feel your pain.

Too impatient to shave - waxing grows in less itchy!
Now I have to find somewhere new since I moved.
  • I've been thinking about getting waxed instead but I'm nervous. Idk how I'd feel about that
  • I delivered the day I was supposed to be checked to see if I was dilated. so luckily I had shaved that morning. otherwise I was lazy as hell the rest of my pregnancy lol

  • I always keep thing pruned as well. I prefer very short & trimmed but not bare. I used an electric razor the motioning of my induction... everything was so swollen majority of the area was covered with nicks. I was bound & determined to have things 'prettier for all the PP grossness.

The first nurse that checked me asked if I was itchy, I said are you referring to all the tiny scabs? Oh no, I'm not itchy I shaved so I looked prettier & clearly that did not work out. The staff was funny & got a kick out of it.

  • I shaved throughout my pregnancy. I shaved one last time in the shower after my water broke. I knew I would freak out PP if I hadn't.
