BP question

Before I get flamed for this, I DEF called my doc first but wanted to know if this happened to anyone else here.

So I know that today was a particularly "salty eating day" which I am going to avoid from here on out! So I was at dinner with DH and my face got all warm and flushed. Otherwise aside from being a little warm I had no other symptoms and felt good. I went to the restroom and by the time we left the restaurant the flushing was much improved.

My BP for the entire pregnancy has been perfection (was 104/70 two days ago). Out of curiosity I made DH stop at a local drug store sono could check my pressure with one of those machines. It was 132/90 then but a) not sure how accurate those are and b) I was already in a panic at this point.

I called the doc and he said to go home, relax, hydrate, avoid salt. He said if it happened again I could go in and get it checked but it didn't sound like anything crazy.

Anyone else ever have one or two crazy bp's, anyone know how accurate those machines are? Any other advice for a crazy FTM?

Re: BP question

  • What were you eating? I had msg several weeks ago, and suddenly my bp went through the roof. My heart was pounding so hard I was scared. I drank a ton of water and it got better, so I've avoided msg since and been totally fine. Maybe it was something particular in what you were eating?

  • If you were "in a panic" your BP could easily be up 20 points or more. I wouldn't give it another thought unless you get two elevated readings 6 hours apart, neither of which while panicking; or unless you have other symptoms (headache, excessive swelling, RUQ pain vision changes etc). If you're really unable to forget about it, call the OB back and ask to go in to be monitored.
  • Also if you were walking around a bit before the reading it won't be accurate.

  • I've always had normal BP as well, and in December had a random high reading from one of the drugstore machines. My doctor said it probably hadn't been calibrated and was an inaccurate reading?? Who knows. No issues with high BP since.....
  • I had a high reading the other day at my NST. I had been running around all day and had a bunch of appointments. I saw my doctor the next day and she wasn't concerned at all, it was back to normal at my appointment and I wasn't having any other symptoms.
