Hmmm well I asked my husband who is a CPA who said 'not directly maybe under medical'. whatever that means. I'll pry him for more info when he gets home from work if no one else replies.
This is interesting. I didn't know breastfeeding supplies could be a write off. I got my breast pump through insurance which was subject to my deductible. I assume if I pay the bill with a medical FSA I cannot claim it as a write off.
As it was explained to me... the breastfeeding supplies themselves are not a deduction. They can be used towards the medical deduction. I believe to claim the medical deduction, you have to spend at least 10% out of pocket of your total income on medical (premiums, oop bills, listed supplies, etc). For instance, if you make 150k a year and your out of pocket medical expenses were over 15k (not what was billed but what you actually paid) then you can claim the deduction.

I do taxes for a living. This is correct. The breastfeeding supplies are not a deduction, but they are considered a medical supply, such as a cpap machine. As far a what you can claim, your itemized has to be more than the standard deduction to claim it, but you will only get 10% of your AGI. If you file jointly then you are going to have to have way more than just BF'ing supplies on medical to itemize though and as far as nursing tanks I am pretty sure they are not considered a supply, but I can check on that.
Edit:wrong word.

That said, I did get some great deals on nursing tanks and bras at motherhood maternity. I realized I needed better gear this time since I will have to nip more due to being out with ds 1 a lot.
I looked into this and you have to be able to deduct a huge amount, like 10% of you income in medical expenses before anything is taken off your taxes (which for us needs to be over $6000 or something). If you could get to that amount I think it includes anything that is nursing related, so bras and tanks would be included. Also you have to do itemized deductions, not the standard deduction.
