I'm going to slap someone

The next person to tell me they don't like the name we picked out is going to get slapped.....hard. We have a son, Jackson and we just found out we are having another boy, Lennon. About 2 people have liked it and the rest feel like I should know that they don't like it. Seriously?!? Who does that? Talk shit about the name behind my back, like any respectable person would! Re: I'm going to slap someone

  • I think it's super cute!! That's probably why so many choose not to share the name until birth.

  • Don't tell anyone his name if you don't want to hear opinions.

    FWIW, I like it.

  • I understand, for a boy we like Felix and so many people react negatively. I figure I love the name enough to say fuckem. Besides once the baby is named they have no option but to shut their mouth.

  • We had the issue of people's initial reaction, not what they said more the nonverbal reactions when we announced DS's name. We don't know the sex of this LO yet nor do we have a name, but if people have reactions like they did with DS's name, I'll just tell them that's what we decided and smile,

  • I like it, but my husband would hate it. It's not a traditional name and I think when you select a name like that you've either gotta have thick skin when telling people (before the baby is born), or just not tell people until after the baby is born. It's going to be a polarizing name.

  • I know several couples who don't share the names while pregnant. Of course the names are a little eccentric... but who would tell a baby they have a weird name?

  • I like it! We didn't share our DS's name with anyone until he was born, because we didn't want to hear crap from people.
We plan to do the same with this one.

    Mommy to R (8.23.11) and K (6.21.14).

  • A lot of people disliked DS's name when we shared it after our a/s. My suggestion is either 1)don't share it or 2) say we're having a boy his name is Lennon and that's final.

  • We received similar feedback with our boy name - Xavier.  Like the others have said, either don't tell them, if you think it's going to bother you, or be prepared for whatever response you may get.
  • I have perfected the bitch face while saying "That's nice. Don't care."

DH and i are constantly throwing around names and that is the response most people (aka family that thinks they have a say) get when they offer up an opinion.

My parents do not like the boy name we have picked out (Oliver), i have made it clear that we like it and we don't give a shit what they want to say about it, it won't change.

  • My sister told me the that she doesn't like the two names we've come up with so far if baby is a girl...it took a lot of self-restraint on my part to not tell her to go take a flying leap. I have heard all sorts of names that I dislike, but I'd never let the parent know that! Talk about rude!

  • I love original names! But just for this reason... That's why we don't tell anyone. Nunya until the baby is born!

  • This reminds me of our boy name selection. My one SIL asked the origin of the name and I responded "It's Jewish" and she gave me a side-eye stinky face (we're Catholic). I immediately followed with, "It's in the Old Testament" and she said, "Oh ok, I like it"

    People are morons.
This reminds me of how DH's grandma called my mom at her work and told her she needed to talk me out of DS's name since it "sounds too Jewish". 1) I didn't even come up with the name, DH did and 2)Really?!

  • My friend's son is Lennon, she didn't share the name until he was born. TBH I didn't like it at first, but I'd never have told her that! Of course now that he's 5 it's grown on me and I love it , can't picture him with any other name.

  • I like it. My cousin had a "Coltrane" and yesterday "Rhodes" was born to an extended family member.  I like that type of name:)

But yeah, one of the many reasons of not sharing what ever name we come up with is not hearing everyone's opinion.

  • Tell me to buzz off! We have gotten flack for the name we chose for our 2nd if it's a boy...we like Kane...my first is Wyatt...they have similar meanings ( one means strength of a warrior and the other means the little warrior) we didn't know that initially till I looked into it and we figured that was a sign... But many ppl keep saying " bit Kane killed Abel" so I respond with..." It's a good thing I don't have an Abel then!"
  • I actually tried commenting on your post on the name thread but my phone was acting dumb. I love the name Lennon!! It would have been a top contender for us, except my brother used it for his dog. :( I'm a huge John Lennon fan but I think it just sounds nice in general.

I wouldn't think twice about what people think, it's your kid. But DH and I are keeping our name a secret because of idiots like that!

All I can think of is wrestling. It would be super cool if you were naming your kid after a wrestler. :P
