I've read that fewer than15% of women have labor start with the "breaking of the waters" vs contractions. Just seems we have a higher percentage going on here.

I've felt like a lot of the birth stories mentioned their water breaking first and was confused too having heard that isn't the "norm." I'm interested to see what happens with the poll.

With DD1 my water broke with no contractions (that I could feel), with DD2 I woke up in the middle of the night with the first contraction that broke my water. Maybe my body type or the way I carry or some other factor causes my water to break early in labor??

My water broke on it's own with DS and contractions started about an hour later. This one is still an inside baby.

DD1: water broke Hollywood style. Water everywhere.

DD2: water didn't break until I was 10cm and pushing.

DS1 contractions came first. Dr had to break my water.
DS2 my water broke at home but I initially thought I peed myself. It was not the epic Hollywood flood you hear about.

With my first they had to break my water. I never expected it to break this time because of those statistics!

DD1 had contractions first (started Sunday night, wasny dilated enough though Monday to be admitted so went home my water broke Tuesday morning

DD2 They broke my water for me at hospital think I was 8-9cm

When I was about to push the doctor on call said 'I'm going to break your water now'. When I told her I wanted it to break naturally (I didn't want any interventions) she actually rolled her eyes at me. It broke a couple minutes later and shot like 6 feet and she jumped

My water broke with my first. I was admitted with this one because of decels so my OB broke my water in the hospital.

Ds 1 water did not break.

I also had read that stat and assumed my water wouldn't break. I did have regular but not really painful contractions before but mine broke pretty dramatically and I was shocked haha

Went in with regular contractions with the first, and water broke first with the second. Everything was completely opposite with my first two kids, so this one is the little tie breaker.

With DD they broke my water in hospital after about 12 hours or so of contractions. I was probably in the 8-9 cm zone. DS is still an inside baby, but I keep hoping it will happen soon!

with DS1, I sprung a leak around 4am, and I leaked whenever I laid down. When I got to the hospital, they broke it completely and it gushed. It's an awful feeling!

I think because we're only a little over a week in actually Feb that this poll will be skewed towards the water breaking at this point in time (many of those with outside babies went earlier than their due date and for many of those, the first sign of labor was their water breaking) at the end of Feb it might be more evened out.

My friends who delivered early had their water break initially. Those who didn't go early generally didn't.

My water broke naturally while DH and I were out at dinner on tues night. I was just about 38 weeks. Dinner was completely normal and then when we stood up to leave to go home it gushed and broke everywhere. Our waitress saw me standing there and was like go to the hospital!! Lol. I was really surprised how much fluid was in there and how long it kept coming out. Despite my water breaking in a complete public place, it wasn't embarrassing or weird. DH and I were shocked but so excited.
