Another stupid provera question..

I've taken provera in the past but it was years and year ago and I don't rememeber.

I just took my last pill of provera today.. For those of you who have taken it how long was it before you got your period??

My dr said it could 1-2 weeks but I'm trying to think back to when I took it and I don't feel like it took that long. Who knows.

Also.. Anybody get the worst breakouts while on it?? I have fairly clear skin (besides the occasional huge zit) but since I've been taking this my chin looks like it has welts. Blah..

Happy this is my last pill and AF should be arriving soon because CD98 with no O in sight is not fun!!!

  • I'm at CD130. I finished a round of Provera 4 days ago and I'm still waiting for AF. My doc said AF should arrive within a week of the last pill.

  • I just did provera to end my last cycle. I think it was about 5 days after the last pill when I got my period. I also had some icky side effects - I felt super sick the whole time I had my period. Hopefully that doesn't happen to you !!

  • It took a few days after the last pill on provera to get AF for me also-but it was mostly just spotting.  My doctor's said that she would up the dose when the time comes if I get to the point of needing to end this cycle too.  I'm not sure if different doses affect how long it takes to start CD1 after your last pill or not-it may just vary from woman to woman regardless of the dose.

  • I finished provera last Friday and CD1 on Sunday, didn't take long at all but I'm certain that it's different for everyone. This cycle was intense with flow and cramps but I'm glad she's gone for now. GL hope she comes soon.

@orazzal it's a pain!!! My old GP never really mentioned the risks with going so long without a period, but I was young and not TTC, so I went ages without one. It wasn't until I got a new doc who specialised in women's health that explained it and gave me Provera.

Actually they aren't necessary unless you are trying to get pregnant. There's actually more risk to having them than not having them.

I am in nursing school and we actually had a nurse practioner who spealizes in reproductive onocolgy come in when we were covering cancers and she actually said there is a higher risk for some cancers in those organs for those women who don't shed there lining often enough. Not saying you are wrong or I am right I just think that there are a lot of different theory's on that subject.

  • In both of your defenses I do remember in that NPs presentation and from what we studied in class that not ovulating reduces your risk of ovarian cancer but not shedding your uterine lining increases your chances of uterine cancer.. So I'm gona stick with that and say you are both right! :)@whocanitbenow @nariadreaming
