HELP ASAP LO BLEEDING

DH was cutting LO's nails in front of the fire (i am supposed to be not moving, I had a back procedure done), I told him to please stop and come on the couch where there is more light and I could hold her. He didn't stop and took off half of LO's nail and a portion of her skin. She was inconsolable and bleeding everywhere. I grabbed her and raised her arm above her head and applied pressure. I called my parents after 12 mins of it not stopping (dad worked in emerg) he told me the reason it wasnt stopping was because LO was hysterical so I ran upstairs and fully dressed submerged in the bath tub bc thats her fav place. She stopped crying and after 35 mins in tub bleeding stopped. Well we finally got out bandaged her finger. Well then the little bugger got the bandage off and she is now on her 3rd and its still bleeding some.

What do you suggest to dress it so it doesn't get infected?

The pedi just said to apply pressure.

Re: HELP ASAP LO BLEEDING

  • Oh poor baby! Hold pressure and if you can, a cold compress to help vessels to constrict.

I wouldn't worry much about it getting infected right now. Since it bled so much, it's actually very clean :) do your best to keep it covered, a tiny bandaid with a nonstick pad (I think they all have this now) is all you should need. It wont hurt anything to put neosporin ointment on it to keep the skin from cracking or sticking to anything. It should heal up pretty quickly!

  • I did this once! For some reason it bled forever! Worst feeling. (((hugs))) Ditto neosporin, bandaids are pointless, she just pulled them off.

  • I too have done this. Those little fingers bleed like crazy. I felt horrible about it too. I had a bandaid over my guy's finger and put a sock on his hand. But he was still little enough to not pull it off. There may not be much you can do. But I did have a doc tell me that no one has bled to death from a fingernail trim bleed and I felt better about that. Maybe you could just put a bit of polysporin on it before bed if you're worried about infection (she'll be less likely to rub or suck it off then?)hugs.
  • Seeing our LOs bleeding is so scary. I hope you got it all taken care of. Now go take care of yourself.
