3rd Trimester

polyhydramnios...what's your number?

39 weeks tomorrow and I had an ultrasound to simply check on baby's position (vertex yay!) However...now I have this polyhydramnios with my fluid levels at 28cm. Anyone going through the same thing?

Doctor told me to seriously watch what I am eating, specifically carb intake.

P.s.... I hate you dr. Google...I never learn my lesson! Haha

  • Well I guess my doc is not too concerned because they are not going to check it again before I deliver. Seems weird because everything I have read about it sounds so serious.

  • I think it's because you are so close to your due date. I was down to a 8 at 31 weeks when I went into labor and they wanted to deliver. Then thy wanted it above 12. I think each stage they look for a different amount. I know they like to see if fluid intake will up the level before doig anything else.

  • With Poly there is really no major reason for concern. It's when there is not enough fluid (oliogohydraminos) <5.
  • I was all the way up to 28 at 30 weeks. Now back down to 17 at 34. Even at 28 Dr said he was not worried. The opposite would cause him to worry. If there are no other indications of problems and baby is growing fine then try not to think about it :)

This is incorrect. There could be several issues that cause polyhadramnios. Sometimes a reason is found sometimes not. It isn't always serious issue but it can be and it can lead to complications.

OP-I would follow your doctors advice and Google less. I had polyhydramnios through this pregnancy. While they did find an issue with my pregnancy that is not always the case. Sometimes it occurs without the doctors being able to find a reason.
