So my Oncologist finally got in touch with my Fertility Doc and she said yes I can take Injections - Follistim and Gonal-F. I'm trying not to be excited but since the Letrozole hasn't worked I was anxious to try something else. Of course with any of these medications I have a little scare attack in the back of my mind b/c I hate cancer!!!!!  Any way are there any side effects to these medications?

Me: 31 (2X Breast Cancer Survivor)

DX: PCOS, Thin Uterine Lining

DH: 38 Perfectly Fine

Married: Since 08/2012

TTC: Since 10/2012

We have tried several cycles of Letrozole,

No Clomid and very limited to what I can take due to health history.

Still Tryng...

Re: Injections Anyone? My Oncologist Said Yes!!!

  • I had no side effects of Follistim except a couple pounds of weight gain.

    Didn't take the second med

  • I took Gonal-f and had some bloating, but honestly it was comparable to letrozole for me--not too much to complain about, unlike clomid which made me nuts!!

  • That's great news!  I had no side affects, other than the usual bloating.  It doesn't come until a few days after you start taking them, but them you are just all sorts of tender and poofy around your lower abs.   It passes a few days after O.

  • I'm on my first cycle using Gonal-f, on day 8 of injects and so far no side effects. I started out on a very low dose though, 37.5iu, and just bumped to 75 on Thursday so I don't know if that will bring anything on. Good luck!

  • Thank you all ladies I've heard some good success stories, and hoping that my next cycle will be a positive one. I'm always a little scared to try new meds b/c of my past with cancer but if my Oncologist ok'd it then I am willing to try.

  • Awesome news. Good luck!!!

I used Gonal-f. I did get a small headache every afternoon, not that bad. Once the upped my dose to 100iui from 50 I started getting bloated. Otherwise not bad at all and easy to give the injections.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I'm on my first cycle with Gonal-F and just had my 10th (and last) dose last night.  Started at 75IU and increased gradually to 150IU.  Clomid made me bats**t crazy and gave me horrible headaches, hotflashes, and nausea.  The only side effects of Gonal-F have been a little morning nausea, a little bloating (nothing compared to Clomid), and after upping my dose to 150 for 3 days, a couple hormonal crying fits.  My biggest complaint about Gonal-F is that it makes me exhausted.  I'm ready for bed at 6:30pm, usually pass out by 9:30, and sleep like a rock all night (which is unusual for me).

  • I didn't have any side effects from Follistim. Just the effects of my ovaries kicking it into full gear :) Bloating and tenderness in my ovaries. Good luck!
