Avent bottles

Hi ladies,

I'm wondering if anyone has had issues with the avent bottles. My little one is a very sloppy eater! He messes all over his chin and down his neck. I'm wondering if it's the avent bottle if if he is just sloppy. We have so many avent bottles I would hate to change bottles but I'm wondering if he would eat better with a different bottle. Anyone else have this issue? What bottles do you use or did you change to? We haven't tried anything else.

    Are you putting the little ring thing under the nipple of the bottle? If we forget that the bottles always leak

    The new ones don't have the ring. It leaks out his mouth. We are using the number 1 nipples. Not sure if we should try preemie nipples or a whole different bottle.

    We used the Avent Natural bottles and DS was a little messy at first. With bottles, liquid comes out even if the baby isn't sucking (which is different than baby at the breast), so it's possible that he's getting some in his mouth but wasn't quite trying for it at that exact moment...therefore not swallowing. Maybe similar for you?

    As he got used to taking bottles on a more regular basis, things became much better.

    FWIW, I love these bottles. So much better than the ones I used with DD (Born Free - they had way too many parts)!

    Mine dribbles bad with all except the lansinoh momma bottles

    We're using the avent natural bottles and DS makes less of a mess than he does with other bottles.

    When my DD was taking bottles (just this week she suddenly decided she will not - so frustrating!), the Avent Naturals were fine.  There was some dribbling, but not enough that I thought we would need to try a different bottle.  I just chalked it up to the flow being a bit too fast for a BF baby.

    How old is your LO? My DD uses avent classic and does just fine but the natural do leak a little more for us. However, it took her a while (until she was about 3 mos) to be able to handle the flow of a bottle nipple vs the breast so she might be messy because she's not swallowing the whole time.

    How are you feeding your lo? We have to sort of sit our lo up because other wise he sucks tge milk out of the bottle to fast. Also we make sure we are leaving the feedings and stopping to burp every once. This also helps with the dribbles. It takes practice.

    My LO is 7 weeks old, I'm thinking it might take some practice on his side to master the bottle. We feed him while he lays in our arms. I will try sitting him up a little more. We usually do burp him in between because he will drink 2 ounces and stop, we will burp him and he will finish the bottle.
