Benched Check-In

image

I've been a bad check-in leader!!!

Last time we had @hope2bmom83, @superwife425, @DayDreamSam, @Kam10, @TheCalhoons, @MrsCamo, @FutureMrsBaldwin2012, @runawaylaurel, @SweetieShellieH, @Canuck13, and @daffydillie.  How's it going?  Any updates? Is anyone off the bench?  Any newbies?

QOTW: What has surprised you the most about your IF journey?

Re: Benched Check-In

  • We are still full steam ahead with IVF #1.  I had my mock transfer and SHG this week.  Both were totally painless and no problems were found.  I'll start BCPs in about 2 weeks which will be my slow exit from the bench.

QOTW: I swear my husband and I are still in denial about actually being infertile. It doesn't help that we are unexplained.  Before we started treatment, we liked to think of ourselves as "subfertile" but not infertile.  I remember checking out after my first IUI and seeing that the insurance label for our visit was "female infertility."  It was a rude awakening from my la la land.  Then, at our f/u appt last month, my RE asked me how long I had been infertile.  When we got out of there, my husband said that question hurt his heart. :-(

  • Still on the bench! I had some testing done last week because I recently discovered that the blood clotting disorder MTHFR runs in my family (cousin and grandma both have it). I called the office today because it has been about a week and a half since my blood draw to see if they had results yet. The receptionist gave me my other results of my TSH and my vitamin d levels but when I asked about the MTHFR she paused and said that she would have the doctor call me back. Of course I never got a call back and I am now convinced that I have the disorder. If it was negative she would have just told me right?

    QOTW:
While I have many supportive friends and family it still surprises me how many of them tell me to "just relax and have a drink, it will happen if you just relax" really?! You know all of my MEDICAL issues, I may be just a nurse but relaxing will not get me pregnant!

  • Last few weeks on the bench!  We are taking our big vacation next week and after that, I'm back on the health kick and prepping for IVF in March/April.  Not that we've been too unhealthy the last month...but I want to be able to go on vacation and not worry about how my eating/drinking will affect IF.

I guess what's surprised me most is how little other people know about their bodies.  I don't think I've had a single friend (unless they were going through IF treatments) who got pregnant in the last 2 years and knew when they ovulated or when they got pregnant.  One friend even tried to convince me that CD1 is when seven days after your period (because that's how she was counting when she got pregnant), and I haven't gotten pregnant b/c I was having sex on the wrong days.

    Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility
    IUI's 1-3 = BFN, IVF converted to IUI 4/13 = BFN
    IVF 1.2: 8R 6M 4F -- 2 blastocysts frozen, FET 8/15 = BFP!!
    Beta #s = 445;1,098; 9,545  -- EDD 5/2 -- Team Pink!
    Camila Josephine arrived 4/30 :)
  • I suppose technically I am benched - missed a cycle due to vacation.  So I have another couple weeks before I go back in again.  Getting anxious to get started but also nervous that we seem to be approaching the end of the line before IVF.

  • @ronniesgirl1981, thanks for running the check-in, and yes, it does suck to be labelled "infertile." My husband doesn't think of it that way (maybe because it's me with the problem?) and when I bring it up, he gets defensive and says we're ok! Just not fertile yet! :)

I'm still waiting it out, just a few more weeks. I'll be done with work stuff in mid-March, so I'll be getting in touch with the RE sometime around the end of February to go forward with IVF #1, getting a baseline ultrasound and bloodwork, and starting BCPs if that's part of my protocol. It sucks to feel like I'm just sitting here, doing nothing after having a very active couple months with appointments and injects and such.

QOTW: I'm surprised by how much there is to learn! Like @gsancho said, so many women (including me, before all this) don't even know the basics. I was a biochemistry major and we talked about hormones a tiny bit, but we never even scratched the surface of all the endocrinology stuff.

  • I thought I was benched but I might not be.  Had my 2nd IUI on 1/22 and started spotting 1 week later.  I went in for an ultrasound and my doctor said I had alot of cysts so if this was AF I was out for the month of February on birth control and could start back up in March.  My progesterone is very low so he put me on supplements for the rest of the 2ww if by chance I was pregnant.  Had my beta yesterday and got the official BFN.  He told me to stop the progesterone and that might cause another AF.  If that is the case, I should go in to start on round 3.  FX that is the case and I dont have to wait until March to try again.

  • @futuremrsbaldwin2012 hopefully it is some sort of policy where the nurse can only tell some test results like routine things.
I'm still benched.  I'm actually so unsure about how I fee right now.  Wednesday night we watched the finale of the biggest loser and I was so pumped up.  I thought ok, home stretch we have 3 months left to lose as much weight as we can before we start back up.  However, I am becoming fearful because one way or another we are going to have answers this year.... will we be succesful?  will we move on to adoption?  will we do IVF?  I dont know something about starting treatments back is making me scared and nervous all over again.
The biggest thing that surprised me about IF is well two things.  First, how many people are affected by it and in how many different ways.  Second, how crazy it makes you.  I don't really remember how I felt while I was doing medicated cycles but I remember how much better I felt when we got on the bench.  I felt like "me" again.  I said something to DH about it the other night and he said "oh I remember very well"  which of course made me feel like I much have really been cray cray!!!
    Ba hahahaha!

@ronniesgirl1981 Thanks for running the check-in!
I'm going to be burning the bench soon. I had my HSG on Wednesday and both tubes are clear! The RE is still worried about the right tube because it is damaged in one way or another because of the ectopic, but hopefully we will have follicles on the left side and just avoid it all together.
I have a week and a half left of BCP and then we will be starting a letrozole cycle around the week of Feb 17th. I'm working really hard this last week and a half to get in better shape. I'm currently down 10 lbs from my heaviest in December. I'm hoping to lose another 3 before we start a cycle.

QOTW: I agree it really surprises me how many people know nothing about how their bodies work. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to explain things to someone who has never had trouble and doesn't believe IF is a disease.
Also, I've been really surprised with how my DH is handling things. He's always been great and supportive, but through our loss and now the whole process with the RE, he has really wanted to be involved every step of the way. He is asking questions and really wants to know how my body works. I don't know how I would get through all of this without him.

  • I'm going to be joining you ladies for a month or two.  Last week we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility and told that my rubella immunities were low, so I have to be re vaccinated.  I have an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday, we have to wait at least a month before we start any treatments.  It looks like April is the earliest we could do our first IUI.

QOTW:  It surprised me how angry and sad it has made me.  Oh and the panic/anxiety attacks that have started, I was only having them when dealing with IF related issues now they have transferred over into every area of my life.

  • Benched over here, sadly.

I had over 10 large follicles on my IUI trial, so my doctor benched me. Anyhow, unless I wanted to be like Kate Gosselin, my hubby has to stay the heck away from me unril I get the clear that I ovulated! LOL.

I was given a progesterone shot to bring on my period, and then I have to go on the pill until my ovaries settle down,...and then on IVF, sadly
