I have 20 OS pocket diapers 3 different brands alva baby, kawaii, and green bees. I also have 3 cloth diaper cover that are green bees. I've only spent $162.75. Is that bad?. And should I buy more or am I fine. Also what else do I need.
Budgets are different for every family. Only you can know if you've stretched your budget too thin. I see you've commented on the spending poll, so you've probably gathered that most have spent a little more than you have so far. If you're really trying to stay around $200, as you said, you're in good shape.
I bought everything new. This will be my second child. So I'm afraid to buy a newborn stash because I tend to have bigger babies. I don't know why I asked if I spent to much I averaged it out and I only spent roughly $8 per diaper. I'm looking to wash every other day. So I was worried not having enough for rotations.
Even though we usually say about 24 OS changes to wash EOD, newborns of any size will probably still need 36. And even larger newborns still need to chunk up a little before they can fit in OS diapers. If you can give more specifics about what size you are expecting based on your first child and what your Dr. is projecting, there might be someone else here who had a similar sized baby and would be able to give you some advice.
So NB diapers are a must? How many NB do I roughly need. My daughter was also 8 lbs.
Some get by with less but I was comfortable washing EOD with 36 changes.
We were barely comfortable washing EOD with 36 changes. I would have loved another half dozen. But there are some mamas who have made it work with 24. I think it depends on how often your newborn pees just as you fasten a new diaper (DD did this at least twice a day so we went through a lot of diapers).

Yes. Even bigger babies will not fit in OS diapers because of skinny legs. Most OS diapers say they will fit at about 8 lbs, but 12lb, possibly 10lbs is more realistic. Even a babies that is 10lbs at birth will have skinny legs, thought they might grow into OS quickly.
Like PPs said 36 is a comfortable number.
And it is worth it to buy a NB stash because they have a great resale value. You can also look into buying used yourself if you need to save $
A great way to have an inexpensive NB stash is to use prefolds and covers. (I noticed that you said that you have three covers, but no prefolds?)
