If you haven't read the book first read the book. I don't know about everyone else, but for me and my friends, this was the first book we read where it was total dirty times, ya know what I mean? Like that book that you read under the covers with a flashlight after your parents went to sleep because you knew it was dirty and gross but you were totally enthralled by your first exposure to literary sex, and incestual literary sex at that. It made you feel gross and you didn't know why but you kept reading. It was the first guilty pleasure many of us had.
Until I posted this, I had NO idea there was a book. I will probably read it now, since it is the original... So, I guess the lmn remake is more true to the book in the sense that it involves the sex.
I think I read it when I was in grade 8 or 9... and even then it was still pretty shocking. I remember reading it at a friends sleepover and her mom noticed I was reading it and took it away from me saying it wasn't appropriate. And then the next day she told my mom about it and instead of being mad my mother defended my right to read whatever I wanted, just because I was reading this material, didn't mean it would turn me into some sort of sexual deviant. Lots of love for my mom just for stuff like that.
