Co-sleeping and bed-sharing mommas

Do you have a timeline in mind for when you are going transition your LO into their crib?  I always thought that around the 6 month mark LO would start sleeping better and I could move her to her crib but that hasn't happened.  The thought of having to get out of bed every time she wakes up is exhausting but the bladder kicking and eye-punching and somehow taking up 1/2 of our Cali King bed is getting tiresome!  I love having her close and waking up to a snuggling, smiley baby is the best, but at the same time I feel like I just need to take the plunge into crib-sleeping!

  • Maybe at a year? I thought 6 months would be the magic number, but nope. Not ready yet.

  • About 18 months probably or when he's ready to stop nursing. That's really what it comes down to for me. When we wean.

  • I am forgoing crib all together

  • So V started sleeping with us this week due to separation anxiety. We will try to transition when this stage is over but right now he is not sleeping well at dc at all. So when he gets home it's naps with mommy and daddy.

  • Sometimes M sleeps in her crib, sometimes she sleeps with us. It just depends. I'm in no hurry to get her out of our bed. I love the snuggles, but lately she's been waking up in the middle of the night and climbing all over me like I'm mt.mommy so we'll see.

  • With my DD we transitioned her to her crib around a year, but was still in bed with us a portion of the night until 18 mos. I expect DS will be about the same.

  • I would not set your timeline by the quality of LO's sleep. That's first.

We just now at 6 months transitioned to the pack n play. It's still in my room but we've had two nights of good sleep there (only 2 wake ups is my definition of a good sleep ;) ).

It's a little harder to get him to sleep there, but I just have to be patient. Eventually he will fuss (not cry) himself out. I usually pet his face & put my hand on his chest until he turns on his side. I can usually tell he's out. We might have one or two instances of having to wash, rinse & repeat the face-petting & massage. Then he's been good for about 3-4 hours.

They will fight it but do what you have to: be it rocking, nursing etc. we have white noise going. I slept with the blanket that I've pulled taunt over the PnP mattress. So it smells like me & is more comfortable than the bare plastic of the mat.

It's a bit more work but it does pay off.

  • DD is still bed sharing, full disclosure. I'm paranoid about having him in the bed with us at this age. If he wants to bed share later I will feel more comfortable. Flexibility yo.

    This is me.
And honestly I don't mind him in bed with me. I love the cuddles.

  • We went from crib all night to co sleeping and now trying to go back to the crib. Co sleeping has been great for me but DH can't handle the 2 night wakings and he is not that great/horrible to deal with when he's sleepy. If DS is in the crib, he wakes up every 2 hours all night long. I prefer only 2 night wakings!

So for now, I'm sleeping in DS's room with him for a few days to try to reintroduce him to sleeping in his own room for the entire night. Hopefully he can be back in his crib soon. Everyone IRL is totally in DH's ear to let DS CIO so it's been stressful. People need to back off and let us handle our lives.

I was in the same boat when LO outgrew his ARC. After lurking on the AP board for a little bit, we ended up sidecarring the crib to the bed. It takes up a little bit more room, but it's worth it. He's on his own surface, but I don't have to get out of bed to nurse him eleventy bajillion times a night. I figure we'll get the crib out of the room once he settles into only waking one or twice. You know, in fifty years.

I am in no rush ready to get her out, she just takes up a lot of room lol

But I just made my DH do this, and it is working excellently! I love it! She's still touching me, but we have tons more space. I'm very glad you put this up here.
  • No idea. LO goes down well at bedtime, in his crib, but is up every 2 hours overnight, so we go into the guest room together.

Lately I have been trying to extend his time in the crib by nursing him in the rocker and putting him back in the crib after the 11 something feeding, then going to bed with him at the 1am feeding on, but I've been much more tired this week so I might go back to just sleeping with him all night.
This is us exactly. We were talking about transitioning, but then lo got sick and I didn't want to change things up. I'd love to sleep w/my husband, though. I love cuddling with lo, but miss dh.

  • We transitioned 4 days ago. He has slept through the night (9ish-7-9ish) every night. So miss having him in the bassinet next to me, but oh my are we all getting better sleep. Good luck mama!!!
  • Liliana has been sleeping in her co-sleeper next to our bed and at times she she ends up in our bed. Two out of my four boys co-slept until 4. The other two were until 1.
