Calories and Protein

If you are counting or tracking, how many calories are you eating and how much protein are you consuming?

My calories were low the last few weeks after a stomach virus, but I am back up to about 2200. I think that is ok, but I am worried about my protein. Even trying to eat more protein, I still only get about 40 to 60 grams. I am thinking about starting to drink a high protein Ensure everyday.

Re: Calories and Protein

  • I think I'm around 2000/day.  I haven't really been tracking protein intake, I just try to eat all the food groups equally.

  • I haven't really been tracking calories, but probably around 2000 per day. Bradley Method follows a diet of 80-100 grams of protein each day, which I have been tracking just because it's the first week.

  • How much protein in a bowl of fruit loops? I kid....kinda. I have been terrible about tracking anything food wise this time around.

Have you been getting that much? That seems like it would be very difficult to get that much - at least it would be for me. But I am naturally drawn and enjoy eating fruits, vegetables and grains more.

The reason I was thinking about doing a high protein Ensure was because I think they have 20-25 grams of protein and it would be a pretty easy way to get some additional protein without force feeding myself chicken breast and egg whites several times a day.

  • I'm eating around 2000 calories/day. I'm not sure about protein, but I eat protein-heavy meals (eggs and sausage/bacon/ham, greek yogurt, a lot of deli turkey, chicken, whole milk and nuts). I've always been a raging carnivore so that's never been an issue.
  • I do a smoothie with protein powder every AM

  • I have been eating about 1,800-2,000 a day and average about 70 grams of protein a day.  Most of that comes from dairy for me.  I have had a hard time with meat during this pregnancy.  Some Nature's Valley granola bars have 10g of protein and I eat those as a snack.

Breakfast: 1 cup plain Fage (23g) + Tbsp chia seeds (3g) + 1/2 tbsp agave nectar + 1/2 cup blueberries

Snacks: mini low-fat Babybel (6g and 50 cals), individual bag jerky (14g and 90 cals), 1/2 cup cottage cheese (14g and 90 cals)

Dinner: Typically chicken of some sort. 25g in 3 oz and I typically eat closer to 6 oz.

I just load up on mini-Babybels and jerky at Costco. I figure I'm doing fine if I have one of each plus my daily yogurt and some meat at dinner. I've been too lazy to figure out a good way to incorporate eggs on a daily basis, even though I'm supposed to be having two per day.

Edited because spacing. I give up on trying to reply from a tablet. And because I meant to quote your response, @IBackBevo.

  • I tracked for about a week and was averaging around 70-75g protein and 2000 calories. I have been making a conscious effort to eat more protein since my OB asked me to watch my carb intake, so I eat a ton of eggs. We are going through a package of 18 in a week now. Three weeks later, my doctor is very happy with my weight gain, so I'm going to try to keep it up. My favorite way to eat eggs right now is in a breakfast burrito with Sriracha, a little cheese, and a few onion-y tater tots. But with my DD I was all about the Greek yogurt. So much more protein than regular. I'm a vegetarian so I was very particular about making sure I got enough as a worrywart FTM.

  • Try Greek yogurt. Fage has 20g per serving. I think chobani has even more. I also snack on hard boiled eggs and cheese.
