Selling or Donating a Car Seat?

I bought a Britax Boulevard for LO a year ago. I really like the seat, but it just doesn't fit her well. She is a big, thick kid and it is a tight squeeze when she has on a sweater and her fleece jacket. We also have a Radian in my H's truck and it fits her SO much better. She hates the car as it is, but is much happier and more comfortable in the radian.

Anyway, I want to get another Radian. Can I donate her seat? Or sell it? Or do I just have to take a loss. Be my google please?!

  • I sold our infant seat (actually the entire travel system) on Craigslist. I know consignment sales around here take seats too; you just have to sign a form saying it was never in a crash. Otherwise, you could donate it.

  • Ok good to know. We don't have big craigslist following so I'm not sure if it would even sell. I will check to see if there is any local place in our small town that would like it.

  • You can sell it but it wouldn't be for much. Most people buy car seats new so the people buying used would be looking for cheap regardless of the model. Do you have any friends expecting? I would offer it to them first since you can guarantee it has never been in a wreck.

Love the Radian. Hope you can find a good deal!

  • I have also had people donate car seats to daycare centers. We used to keep one at our center for emergency transportation, when a grandparent or other person is unexpectedly asked to pick up a child and they don't have a seat. It was not used very often, but nice for us to know that the child was bring transported safely.

  • I am leaning towards donating it. It is a really nice seat that I would love to see go to someone who needs it. Thanks ladies. If anyone sees a good deal on a Radian, let me know!! :)

We did sell M&M's car seat on craigslist. But, I think donating it is a great idea.

  • Diono is releasing their 2014 models in the second quarter. Just before then or during that time is when you can usually get the best deal on 2013 models. If you want to spend a bit more money, they are releasing a 50lb rear facing car seat this year.

    Here is some info:
The R100 will be replaced by the Olympia, the R120 by the Pacifica and the RXT by the Ranier. All seats have deeper side wells as well as a 50 pound rear facing weight capacity on the Pacifica andRanier and a 45lbs rear facing weight capacity on the Olympia. The two upper end models also go to 90 pounds in forward facing harness as well as 70 pounds forward facing harness limit on theOlympia. The latches still hold up to 80lbs and you can still fit 3 across a back seat as the seat has not become any wider. The new fabrics feel much better and all three versions have both black and gray options which are neutral and work well in all cars.

    And this lists the prices:

The Olympia is the first model, featuring the new covers, new fashions and improved side impact protection.  It has a 45 pound rear-facing limit, 70 pounds forward-facing and 110 pounds in booster mode.  $279.99 MSRP.

The Pacifica adds a deluxe infant body support cushion and increases the limits to 50 pounds rear-facing, 90 pounds forward facing and 120 pounds in booster mode. $319.99 MSRP.

The Rainier is the top model in the lineup (pictured above) and adds thicker, more protective looking adjustable headwings to the Pacifica.  $359.99 MSRP.

  • All I know is now I want to buy the houndstooth seat, so cute!

  • I'd just donate it. You won't get near enough selling it to cover the cost of a radian. I'd find a new mom friend or someone who you know could use the help.

  • I believe BRU is still doing their trade in event, if you didn't want to sell or donate.
