siblings sharing a bed?

I was at a work dinner the other night and one of the other attendees mentioned that her sons sleep together in the bottom bunk of their bed.  I have never heard of kids bedsharing with each other.  Does anyone do this?  How old were your kids when they started sharing a bed?

We co-slept with DS until 15 months when he dropped his night nursing session. Now that he is in his own room, he still prefers to fall asleep with one of us next to him.  And when he wakes up in the night he crawls out of bed and comes looking for DH to snuggle with.

DS1 is on a twin floor mattress, but we're thinking of getting him a bigger one. I'd like DS1 and DS2 (due in July) to share a room, but I'd never considered them sharing a bed.  If we do plan to have them share a bed later on, it makes the issue of how to fit two beds into their room moot.

Re: siblings sharing a bed?

  • My sister and I had our own rooms growing up but most of the time she came in my room to sleep with me. I remember her coming in my room when I was in 1st grade, so she would have been around 4? She and I shared a bed until about 6th grade when I decided I was too big for that. :-) My nephews also have bunkbeds (ages 3 and 5) and most night they both end up cuddled up in the bottom bunk. I think most people would prefer to sleep next to someone else. It's just comforting and reassuring to know someone else is there.

I totally agree.  And I think DS1 will sleep better/longer if DS2 sleeps with him.
