How much formula?

I BF but have bought some formula to keep on hand if I ever need to supplement. My question is how much do I give her? Right now on breast milk she takes 4 oz every three hours. If I should need to give a formula bottle in place of my milk how many ounces do I give? Sorry if this has been asked but I tried to research and got a ton of info on newborns. She will be 5 months on the 15th.

Well I EFF and he drinks 6 ounces every 3-4 hours. How do you know she is getting 4 oz when she nurses? Do you weigh her or is she drinking BM from a bottle?

I'd give her 6oz to start and see what she does with it. I make 8oz bottles and sometimes he drinks it all, sometimes he leaves an ounce or so.

We alternate 6oz and 4oz bottles.

My little guy is taking 7oz every 3 hours and he's 4.5 months old. If your DD takes only 4 oz of breast milk I would start with that much for a formula feeding as well. If she drinks it all and seems to want more make another 2 ounces and offer that to her.

Thanks ladies! I've given her a few ounces to make sure it's ok with her tummy but never had to supplement yet & want to be prepared.

My LO is supplemented now and he takes 5oz pretty consistently. Sometimes he will leave a little left (like an oz) . I should add though that he also eats baby food three times a day now ..

DS gets about 50% milk and 50% formula during the work week. He has been on this diet for about 2 weeks now. He eats about every 2-3 hours and he gets 4oz. no matter whether it is breast milk or formula. He seems to be happy with that. We also supplement his night time nursing with about 2 oz. of formula since he never seems satisfied from nursing.

My DD is 4.5 months and we do 5 oz every 3-3.5 hours. Sometimes she leaves a little in the bottle. She weighs less than 13 lbs though. I think baby's weight is a factor in how much formula they need.
I would also recommend giving your baby 4 oz of formula to start out with.
