Working Moms

Advice wanted...

So, after 4 years of being home with my almost 6 yr old and almost 3 yr old, I am officially going back to a full time career! I am very excited and wanted to go back to work. I am seeking advice though from you all...I have three weeks to get my act together. During these 3 weeks what should I be doing to organize myself and the kids....I already have my nanny for until June. We are moving end of may so have to figure out summer plans and a daycare for my son. What should my priorities be so I am ready! Tia

  • I would do some freezer meals so you don't have to cook everyday when you start up, I would think you'd be surprised at how tired you'll be at the end if the day - although depending on what you're going back to, maybe it will be more relaxing than being a SAHM! I'd also figure out your morning routine.

  • Agree with the above. Also get your hair done, buy any new work clothes you need, and take care of any DR or other appointments now. Also make sure to do something fun with your kids before you go back!

  • I think open communication with DH is super important. Even after a brief maternity leave, my DH felt that I was the main child care provider and go to for any problems/issues. Have discussions about how this changes both of your schedules, your morning/evening routine, household commitments. Figure out who can pick up/drop off, what would happen if one of the kids are sick. Maybe make a list of house work and what needs to be done daily versus every few days or every week. Consider a housekeeper if your don't have one already. Best wishes going back to work!
