I've used olive oil on his scalp a couple of times but haven't noticed a big improvement yet. He's starting to dig into his scalp while sleeping and now he's got a few open sores. Poor baby.

try baby oil before a bath, but what worked (and my pediatrician suggested it) is pick it out with your nails. don't dig to deep you do not want to create open wounds. i usually do it while breast feeding, it has been gone for over a month.

There is this bath tool we got at our baby shower that has a soft side and on the other it's got brissels (sp?) for cradle cap. ?It works wonders! ?You just use it in the bath, it's like an exfoliator... yeah I can't spell, lol.
It's light blue and you can put soap inside of it, sorry I don't have a name for it. ?I think you might be able to find it at target.
We've used aquaphor on the edges of his face, and that product with our bath time. It has helped quite a bit. We've also done the oil treatment, but it's not as good as that product above.
Before bathtime, comb through the hair and loosen all of the scales, don't dig, but really try to get them all. Wash hair w/ Head and Shoulders..I let it sit on her head for a few minutes while I washed the rest of her.
After bath, brush hair and scalp to makes sure its clean. Vrus as needed to keep the scales from building up as much.
This got rid of her cradle crap in less than a week!
We used a cream by Mustela, and I brush out the scales after each bath. Look closely at his head once you get the scales off, so you can recognize what early cradle cap looks like (before it starts flaking). It's sort of yellowly, thicker looking skin. I use a baby comb and softly brush those areas whenever they appear to get rid of them before they start flaking.
My doctor suggested a remedy similar to the head and shoulders. She said to dampen her hair a bit and put Selsun Blue on her scalp. Wait 20 min and rinse. Then take a soft toothbrush and rub tiny circles over the affected area and rinse as necessary. My baby's cleared up quickly and a week later, her baby acne is much better.
My doc recommended Selsun Blue. Worked like a charm. I washed her hair with it every other night for a week and it was gone. That was two months ago and it hasn't been back since!
Re: How to get rid of cradle cap?
DS cradle crap is ALMSOT gone now. Took forever. I put baby oil on his head and washed his hair most days of the week. Not much else you can do.
If your baby is digging at his head while sleeping, you might want to think about putting some mitts on!
So, you are supposed to wash more often. It seems like that would dry it out, but I'm not sure.Is that why you used the oil then? Sorry, I'm no help!
I think DD might be getting it. I'm seeing some flakes.
