Going on vacation to celebrate 1st birthday!

Hi all! I've been feeling so much pressure to do something spectacular for our little one (and only child)'s first birthday and I've been driving myself crazy.

I really don't want to spend a lot of money, energy, hopes and dreams on this party and then run out of steam for next year's party, when he'll actually have more fun. So we decided to plan a vacation to a warm, sunny place instead and throw a big party next year. This year we'll still have a small celebration with cake with my family and we'll do a lot of activities with him while on vacation. Anyone else skipping the big first birthday party?

  • I decided to have a party. W family alone it's almost 65ppl. Who def won't fit in my house and so we rented a hall but it's turning into this huge party and I regret it. :(

  • We aren't doing a big party. I can't see spending $200 on a hall rental, $200+ on food, plus decor and such when we just had a huge christening and party in August. We are going to a restaurant and celebrating there. If people want to come they can come, we only invited immediate family. If it's just 3 of us then so be it! You are right the party is really for the adults anyway. Enjoy your vacation!
  • DH and I usually try to go do something fun for our birthdays (sometimes it I a party instead though). I thought about doing this with DD this year, but we re just skipping a part y'all together. We'll go visit relatives or have them visit is on days around her birthday, but we're not doing a party at all.
