Anna is latching like a champ and doing wonderful with BF overall.
The LCs say her tongue could use a little snip which might prevent future problems. It's on the fence but "couldn't hurt."
Has anyone had this done? Is it really as quick and painless as they say?
The on-call oral surgeon is an old man set in his ways and doesn't do them. I'd have to take her somewhere later in the week though we are still in the hospital. Annoyed.

At the end of the day, personal decision for you to make. There's no guarantee that there will be speech problems down the line, but something to consider.
FTM, but one of my younger brother's had it done as an infant. Some blood and a short bout of crying and it was over. Didn't seem bothered by it afterwards.
If it's not bothering her bfing, it can wait a bit but IMO you should get it done.
I think it's mostly him knowing he's not "normal" and wanting to be. It doesn't come up often, but I know he does wish he had it done.
There was a post about this on the bfing board once, and one of the women said she had a severe tongue tie that was never corrected, and she couldn't lick ice cream cones or French kiss. Definitely not things I would have ever thought of.

Yup! DH can't do either of those. He also can't.... Go spelunking, if you know what I mean.
Mom to Lily and Colin!
I feel so guilty doing it- ouch.... But I don't want to prolong it if it'll need done later.
BFing is going so good but I'm starting to crack. Not sure if it's related to tongue or just being new/tender and trying to get her mouth to open wider.
Appointment is tomorrow at 9am. ;((
Do it! Many, many babies don't react at all and all my friends who snipped minor tongue ties said that the nursing pain reduced dramatically.
Anyway- I went back and he explained he was going to snip in two places, that there are no nerves, and that she made bleed for a minute or two. I'm an emotional nightmare: I swaddled her and DH sat in the dental chair, holding steady onto her head. I had to walk out bc I didn't want to see or hear.
They came and got me literally one minute later: the doctor wanted me to BF because of the antibodies in the milk. She was whimpering a little but DH said she had screamed for 15 seconds.
When I started to feed, she didn't latch well at first so I pulled away and there was blood all over my nipple: I was literally bawling. I tried again and ame latched right away. She had been doing well anyway- but my nipples were all cracked and sore.
For the rest of the day she was playing with her tongue and sticking it out like she discovered something new. It's still painful right now but obviously my nipples didn't heal in one day.
We use a cotton swab with water on it and touch under the tongue after each feed for a week. There was no more bleeding once we left the office.
I'm glad it's done. It didn't look like a bad tie, but I'm amazed at the difference in her tongue movement now that it's cut.
Thanks for your help ladies!!
