3rd Trimester

Day 1 of bed rest

My doctor just put me on bed rest at 33 weeks because of contractions and cervix shortening, luckily no dilation, so fingers crossed I'll keep this little one cooking for at least two more weeks. Luckily my mom is coming in a few days to help with my 18 month old son. My husband stayed home today due to bad weather and has been beyond unhelpful, not really helping too much with our son, and being generally unsupportive. I guess I was hoping for a little more help or at least some show of concern. Thank god for moms! Looks like it could be a long month.

Re: Day 1 of bed rest

  • I also have a short cervix and I might have to go on bed rest as well, Just out of curiosity what is the measurement of your Cervix ? Mine is measuring between 1.7cm-2.2cm.
  • Loading the player...
  • Mine was 2.0 last friday, they'll check again this Friday. I've noticed that laying down today has helped with the pressure and contractions so hopefully will slow things down. Good luck to you!
  • I'd talk to him a little about what it would be like to have a 33 weeker, esp with a toddler at home. You're looking at at least 3 weeks in the NICU and maybe more like 5. Baby could have breathing issues, will need a feeding tube, bili lights, and be in an incubator. Going back and forth from the hospital is crazy stressful and your 18 month old will probably only manage quick visits.

He needs a serious reality check. This is coming from a preemie mom who is now on bedrest. If anything, he should be following you around anytime you're up and telling you to sit down (or at least that's what my husband done- he's really FREAKED about doing the NICU rollercoaster again).

Here's hoping he settles into a better routine with you and can be more supportive. There are some good preemie info sites out there- happy to share some ideas if that would help!

  • Maybe, it's also your husband's way of coping. Maybe you need to talk about this to him in a nice way, that you need his support...

All of this! He needs a reality check big time. I thought when I was on bedrest last time at 31 weeks it was bad. The house wasn't getting cleaned or anything and all I looked forward to was meals at night. But now with a 22 month old I can not even begin to imagine how much extra stress that would be. He needs to take full control of you lo and you. Cooking etc. Get his ass in check!

  • Thanks ladies, your right I need to have a serious talk with him. I can tell the bed rest is helping anytime I do any walking around the contractions and serious pressure start. I'm getting checked again by my OB tomorrow so hopefully there hasn't been a major change.
  • @cmraj glad it's helping! Definitely have your OB talk to him as well. There's a bedrest checkin thread daily on the High Risk Pregnancy board if you're interested.

I'm only 31 weeks! my doctor is way too laid back. He doesn't think I need to be on bed rest but I think i'm going to put my self on bed rest.
