Baby K'Tan versus Moby?

What is the difference between the Baby K'Tan and Moby? They look like similar wraps. I am about to buy one but am not sure which one to go with. TIA!

Re: Baby K'Tan versus Moby?

  • K'tan isn't as complicated to wrap, it's made of 2 loops. I've never tried a moby but I like my K'tan and find it very easy to use and my girls love it:)

  • The baby K'tan has two rings that you just place. My understanding is that the moby needs to be tied in place. Obviously there are pros and cons to each. My suggestion would be to look at videos on YouTube to see which looks better to you.
  • FWIW, I have the K'tan and it is tight and I don't need to hold it. But I can understand that if it doesn't fit just right, that would happen.
  • I use a boba wrap, which is basically just like the moby but a bit stretchier fabric and a bit lower price.  I choose it over the ktan so my husband and I could share it.  Ktan is one size and probably wouldn't have fit us both well.  We both found the wrap very easy to learn to use.

  • I would suggest the k'tan. I love mine; I've used it with both kids now. I found the moby extremely complicated to use and I had tons of fabric left over after I had it tied. The only downside to the k'tan, that I have found, is that it goes by size so your H might not be able to wear it. That isn't a problem for us because H really never baby wears and wouldn't even if it did fit him.

  • I agree with KEFam5. It doesn't matter to us that the K'tan doesn't fit my husband because he wouldn't wear it anyway.
  • I am not sure if you sew or not, but if you sew you can save some money and make it yourself. I took a look at the Ktan at the store and a tutorial off Pinterest and made mine. It basically two loops. Just feel it in person first so you can get the same fabric. It cost $6 to make versus $50 to buy, and I could size it better to fit me. You may be able to do the same for a moby.

  • VHey stm Mamas, I have a Q for those with K'tans. Did the k'tan got tighter as baby grew? Should I get my pre-pregnancy size and one size up? We don't have a baby specialty store on this island so I have to order it online. TIA!

  • @esd thank you! I am in need of a hands free carrier and don't want to get the wrong size. As your LO grew, did it get tighter?

  • @esd oh I see. Does it take a little longer to put the Moby on? I'm more on the smaller side so I'm worried ill have more material left over.

  • @esd okay, thank you for your help!

  • I love my K'tan. I never had an issue with fit - followed their sizing tips and its great. Fit a little snug at first, but stretched to fit me better and be comfy. And if I feel like I want it a little tighter, I just wash it. For me, it was totally worth the ease of use.
  • I had a K'tan with DD1 and now use it with DD2, love it for the newborn stage but as soon as they hit about 15lbs it's too stretchy. They both feel/felt very secure in it, but you need to get the right size (it's not a good wrap to share with your partner IMO) - if it gets too loose just wash and dry on hot to shrink it back down.

  • I have the Moby and the Boba - had the Moby with DD1 and got the Boba with DD2.  I've tried the K'tan but it wasn't my favorite.  The Moby and Boba tie the same way and are very easy to use once you do it a few times (get somebody to show you or watch a youtube video).  I generally like the Boba better than the Moby.  It is stretchier and easier to "adjust" when already on.  However, it doesn't have as much support because of the stretchier fabric so I have found my back hurts a little more easily than it does with the Moby.  So if I know I'm going to be wearing it for 1+ hours, I go with the Moby.
