Testing Zygosity

Not sure if anyone is interested, but I just ordered a test yesterday to finally find out if our twin girls are identical. I will post the timeline for getting the kit, them receiving it back, and getting results in case anyone is as curious as I was prior to finally just biting the bullet and doing it. There are so many different sites with such different fees, I went with the cheapest (proactivegenetics.com). If someone has experience with other sites and wants to put their opinion in this thread, please feel free. It may help someone else decide which company to go with.

Feb 3 - Ordered test

Feb 4 - Test shipped out

Feb 7 - Received test. Actually read directions and realized I have to swab them in the evening and then again in the morning.

Feb 8 - Sent test back

Feb 13 - They received it

Feb 14 - Testing will start

Feb 25 - results were emailed to me

I need to do this as well!! Doctors are telling us we have identical mo/di girls. Our baby A was diagnosed with mosaic Trisomy 21 (25% of cells showing trisomy 21) and our Baby B is showing 10% trisomy 21 but Geneticist says Baby B more than likely has a false positive due to TTTS. The girls don't look identical, so I'm actually curious to know if they're di/di. Excited to hear results from all of you of a good test to use!!

The test came today. I didn't realize that I would have to do it in the evening and morning. I was all set to swab them and run to the post office. Now I'm going to have to drag all 4 kids there in the morning!

@amy1007 We found out at 16 weeks that we were having twins so it's kinda hard to tell...but here's my ultrasound.

@ashB62 Yes that's what I was told at all my ultrasounds, they only saw one placenta and a very thin sac dividing the girls. But when the twins were born the doctors took a really good look at my placenta and it didn't seem like a fused placenta to the doctors. My midwife even took a picture because she was amazed at how it looked. I have the picture of it but not sure if you guys would want to see it. Science is still telling us mo/di without the DNA results ofcorse.

My pediatrician looked through the girls' hospital file, but found nothing in their c-section notes about placentas. We have no idea if there was any prenatal care, so no chance to find out about what early ultrasounds looked like. I can't even post a pic in here for you ladies to analyze, because DCF prohibits us from sharing their photos. I'm so excited to find out, just so I can answer "yes" or "no" when people ask if they are identical! Everyone looks at me like I'm an idiot for not knowing.

@ashB62 yes my placenta was sent to pathology as well. I really haven't heard anything back from pathology about my placenta. How long do those results normally take? It's been 3 and half weeks since my girls were born.

Marcobunny it looks like identical from u/s pic. Di/di would be 2 separate black holes with baby in each. Mine were mo/di one black circle both babies in it, thin dividing membrane

We got the results in today, 3 weeks and 1 day after ordering the test. The girls are identical - I am thrilled mostly because my husband and sister kept telling me I was nuts for even considering that they looked enough alike to test them.
