Bedding Sets for babies...worth it?

For those who have babies and kids older than Miss G (15 mos), if you bought a bedding set with a comforter, did you ever use the comforter?  As a first time mom, I fell into the trap of the 7-piece set and used the bumper for 3 months before it was too difficult to change the sheet all the time with the thick bumper.  Also didn't use the comforter until now, but only during naps, since she moves from one end of the bed to the other at night.  Do older kids really use the comforters?  I'm not planning to buy the 7-piece sets for the boys, but they do have 3-piece, with the comforter, sheet, and crib skirt.  Use breathable bumpers and love them.

  • Not enough that we wouldn't have been fine without it. I mostly use it on the floor to change diapers because my son prefers to cuddle with softer blankets.

  • We did start to use the comforter this winter so starting about 2.5 years old. She was of the nature of being all over the crib the prior year and then settled into sleeping with her head at the top of the crib, feet at bottom type thing. The comforter has been helpful to us for both kids. I too worried if i blew $ on nothing since I didn't use the bumper either.

  • We have never purchased a bedding set and never missed having any of the pieces.  Just solid sheets, my MIL made a crib skirt and then I bought a few solid changing pad covers.  We've never used bumpers so that wasn't an issue.  He has his favorite blankets that he prefers and most crib comforters wouldn't be soft enough for him.  I don't regret not having a bedding set at all!
  • We used the comforter for a few months with DD1 and a few months with DD2. In my opinion, it was totally NOT worth the $$ for the whole set. If I had to do it over again, I'd just buy crib sheets.

  • We got sheets and a comforter. DS hates the comforter and refuses to use it.

  • My son uses the comforter. He's been in a toddler bed/converted crib for over a year and he uses the comforter in the winter.

  • We never bought a bedding set, until DD got a twin size for her big bed. She sleeps with the comforter. For the crib, we just have used separate sheets and blankets. My mom is a quilter, so we have a million quilts from her in the house :)

  • We only ever used our sets for decoration with DD and DS. The sheet was really the only piece used on a daily basis, since they both got lots of blankets as gifts and each has one special
"blankie" they sleep with. I wish we would have saved the money and put it toward something else.
  • I never bought a crib set- I bought a crib skirt and sheets that went with the color scheme- when she was ready she used fleecy blankets.  Honestly think those crib sets are a waste!
