Pregnant after IF

One question

This is my first time on this board. I am coming over from the TTTC board.  I just recently found out that I am pregnant (hopefully) after my 14dpo blood confirmation.  I go back on Friday to see if my numbers double.

My question is this, I have low progesterone (always.)  Isn't that bad in early pregnancy?  Shouldn't the Doctor have ordered a progesterone test along with the BPT?  I hear a lot of people have gone on progesterone pills, etc. for this very issue.  Should I demand a progesterone test?  I'm not sure how all of this works.

Re: One question

  • Yes. If you already KNOW you have low prog, they should be testing your levels along with your betas, to see if you need any form of supplements.  I'm not sure why they wouldn't automatically have you on supplements if you know you have a problem with progesterone? It's not a big deal, even if you don't have low prog, a supplement wouldn't hurt you anyway. ywkim?

  • That's exactly what I thought!  I have read that some DR.s are against that but I don't think my RE is one of them. I guess I will be calling him in the morning to get an order for a progesterone STAT.  When does the frustrations end after IF?????

    ALL WELCOME :)
  • So I called the RE.  The nurse said that they only give progesterone to women who have had recurrent loss and that your body starts producing progesterone on its own while pregnant (If this is true, why do I hear about having to take prog. while pregnant???) ugh!  I haven't had recurrent loss, but I have years of history with almost non-traceable progesterone levels.  So at first I listened to what the nurse said, because she wasn't going to give me the progesterone anyway....but a little later I started to get mad that they never even checked my progesterone levels, so I called them up and demanded that they give me a progesterone test when I go to get my second beta done.  She agreed to this, so hopefully it will give at least some peace of mind.  Do you think this is all I needed to do?

  • My progesterone was checked with all 3 of my betas and it slowly decreased. After beta #3 I was put on a suppository because it was lower than they wanted it to be. I started that at 5 weeks and will be on it until week 10.

  • Hmmmmm. So I went in for beta #2.  All is good.  The levels more than doubled and my progesterone level was 37.  However,  They said it was good and that I didn't need any other tests.  I have my first u/s in about 2.5 weeks.  Do you all think that I can hold out until then?  Should I ask for another test before then?  I'm not sure what to do.  Howevr, I am really happy that my levels were good!
