Car seat cleaning

My lo had a diaper accident in her car seat and my husband used fabric cleaner to clean the pad. He says he didn't use it on the strap.

Does anyone know why you can't use chemicals on the pad?

I called the company and the girl didn't seem to understand what I was asking. She told me they recommend soap and water, then looked up the manual and said it recommends soap and water. I had to explain to her a 3 times that I know what it recommends but my DH didn't do that. It's already cleaned with chemicals and I can't go back to undo what he did. Eventually she said she understood and that it should be fine...but I didn't have much confidence with her.

Re: Car seat cleaning

  • The part that you really can't clean with harsh chemicals is the harness.  He needs to be VERY sure he didn't get any on the crotch strap.  Otherwise, I personally wouldn't worry about cleaning the cover itself.

  • Ok, I'll check with him when he gets home. Do you know why it can't be used on the strap? (Need to have my defense ready if he thinks I'm crazy lol)
  • Chemicals break down fibers.  The straps are meant to stretch in an accident, not break or tear and once chemicals are applied, all bets are off.  You can't use anything more than a baby wipe or a damp (not wet) rag that's been dipped in water and a mild detergent - baby soap and blue Dawn are the typical recommendations.
