Night Owl Kids

Does anyone else have a kid that is crazy energetic at night.  DD will sometimes stay up until 11:00 before she finally just falls over and falls asleep.  If we try to initiate bedtime and "make" her go to sleep...it's a battle that can easily last over an hour.  I'm not sure what's more exhausting...trying to get her to sleep...or just letting her do her thing until she falls asleep on her own.

I have to get up at 5:40am and I have to wake DD about an hour later...so ideally, she would go to bed early so that we both get enough sleep.  Some nights I go to bed before her and DH is in charge of getting her to sleep.

I don't understand how a kid that never eats and never sleeps can have the energy she does.

What helps you settle down your active babies in the evening?

  • sarasansh, at her dayhome, nap time is at noon and she naps for about 90 minutes usually.  The other kids all nap longer, lol.

She does sometimes have late naps on the weekends, so I try not to let her nap too long if she does.

V is an owl. Her bedtime is 9:30 and it takes at least an hour to put her to bed, so I start at 8:30. We read, take a bath, read more, put all the dolls to sleep, say good-night to every member of the family, go outside to make sure it is night, it is dark and everybody is sleeping, stars and moon are out... Then the last try should be daddy she only goes to bed when daddy is putting her to the crib. It is very lensome and exhausting routine. But she sleeps late in the morning so I should not complain...

  • We definitely have an owl over here! She doesn't go to bed until at least 10 pm and still nurses to sleep, which means I get to stay up with her. At least I am home, so we usually sleep in until 9 a.m.
